Generally speaking...tacos are tacos. That's doesn't apply at this place. Why not? Mainly because of the quality and flavor in their fillings.
We live in a world where Mexican restaurants fall into some pretty distinct categories. This place defies such categorization. They have everything ready (like Chipotle) but it's all really good, fresh and flavorful. They are very much a QSR concept but the quality of the food was exceptional on the day I visited. Looking over the reviews on Yelp, it appears as though the food is always exceptional.
I ordered 3 tacos on corn tortillas. They doubled-up the tortillas and gave me a level scoop of one protein per taco. If you look at the picture of the tacos I was served you'll see that they are heaping with the good stuff.
They had more than a half-dozen protein choices but I selected grilled chicken, carne asada and carnitas. I had each topped the same (cilantro, cheese and onions) and took a small cup of habanero salsa on the side. Here are some miscellaneous observations:
Grilled chicken: tender, juicy, flavorful and well-seasoned. Chicken can be such a problem protein to prepare but their version was executed exactly right and every bite was delightful.
Carne Asada: not sure if there was any pink left in the meat but it was cut into small enough pieces that it wasn't much of a concern. Again, the meat was flavorful, cooked perfectly and (unlike a lot of carne asada I've been served over the years) not loaded with fatty pieces. Another win!
Carnitas: I'm not generally one to order carnitas but I decided to take a risk today because it looked so delicious. Guess what? It was delicious! I enjoyed the fact that there were little cubes of pineapple mixed in with the little cubes of meat.
Habanero salsa: not really worthy of it's own paragraph but certainly worthy of a written warning. That stuff packs a punch! It's also their second-hottest salsa.
Last note: I really appreciated the fact that everything was prepared with such care and served warm enough to actually melt the cheese a little. That's something of a rarity in my experience with taquerias.

Being Mexicana I would give it a solid 3.6 al pastor was lacking in flavor and pina and had an interesting taste. The asada was not terrible and the tortillas were not warm nothing really was the star of the show was the service and the salsas by far!
