Very nice experience. We had drinks at the bar before dinner, and it was very nice. The dining room (I think there are actually 2 rooms) is very warm and appealing. We found the server, Samantha, to be top notch. The food itself was good—not outstanding, but good. The steaks were choice, not prime, which is a bit of an issue. So we avoided the steaks and got the pork chop and ribs. Both were very good. Crab cake appetizer was also solid. Not the best meal you’ll ever have, but an overall solid experience.
Very good food! The staff was also very friendly. 10/10!

Really enjoyed the visit to Generals. Very good ribeye and mashed potatoes. Charcuterie board was plentiful and delicious.

Honestly, I have been to this restaurant a handful of times and has been good all the times before except this most recent time. The food wasn't as good quality as it used to be with my steak being undercooked but my scallops were overcooked (and very tough). The service was okay, not great but not horrible.

The food was just fantastic! Well worth trying. Service was friendly. We would 100% go here again no questions!! Perfect for a special occasion as well as just a nice dinner out. Dress was casual. Nothing special required.

We had an early dinner. The crab bisque was creamy, thick and flavorful. Full of crab. Drinks were delicious! I had peach sangria and my spouse had a Wisconsin ImIld Fashioned. My husband had a pork filet and I had garlic. The ambience was cozy and interesting— historically.
Service was amazing. Food was delicious.

All four of us decided on the walleye and it was fabulous. The pretzel crust and whole grain mustard sauce inspired me to have an (always reliable) Revolution IPA though the wine list was extensive. A nice piece of lemon cake was a perfect finisher. I was surprised by the reasonable price in this touristy town. Worth every penny!

Good food, spouse had steak special and I had the pretzel crusted walleye (glad I asked for the mustard on the side), we both ordered the potato gratin as 1 of our sides…we’re not overly hot. Quiet night, one waitress taking care of 7 tables. Walking around town I had found a $10.00 of coupon. We did not think the bread was anything special. If in town again….we would consider this place to eat at.
The Generals' Restaurant, located in the lower level of the historic DeSoto House Hotel was surprising. We have dined in various hotel restaurants, and it can be hit or miss but The Generals' was a pleasant and delicious surprise. My husband had the steak special which came with blue cheese butter, and I had the pretzel crusted walleye. The focaccia was so good we asked for some to take home. The ambiance is cozy with a comfortable bar area and various dining rooms. Service was friendly and attentive. We sat at a table next to a former doorway in the House, known to be used by "The Lady in Black" ghost. If you can't stop in for a meal, stop in for a drink at the bar with the "spirits" and soak in the history.
The service was incredible. We got the duck skewers, french onion soup, steak, and the artisanal burger. It was Incredible. Word to the wise make reservations. We got incredibly lucky because of the weather cancellations but apparently reservations are a must.

I was honestly surprised by how good this was. Very charming and old school, but our walleye and filet exceeded expectations. I go to a fair amount of high-end steak joints in Chicago and this steak was on par with the best of them.
