Absolutely love this place. I’ve been a handful of times over the past few years and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it every time. We went for New Year’s Day on a whim and found two bar seats on the end that were open. The seating here is tight so unless you have a reservation, chances are you aren’t getting in. It is a whiskey bar, so there’s a significant amount of seating at the bar, but it is usually filled up at peak hours. Alas, we secured a spot. I got an old fashioned, my wife got a s’mores espresso martini - both delicious in their own right. We proceeded to BOTH order the steak frites which… if you’ve looked at the picture, hardly needs an explanation. I will say, it’s a hangar steak so certain parts were slightly difficult to cut, but nothing at fault of the chef. 90% of this steak was as tender as butter. Speaking of butter, it came with a side of oil, butter, and herbs - *drool*. The fries were truffle and we could not stop eating them. I usually am not a huge truffle fries kind of guy, but these were on point. The fries themselves had great texture and were excellent. My only gripe was you could feel the cold air from the fridge leaking through the bar, my wife had to put her coat over her knees lol. That and that I wish this place was bigger. Otherwise, this place is top tear. I recall the jambalaya was really good another time I went.
9.5/10 - would definitely go again

The salmon salad is fantastic!
I'm a regular at Barrel and Rye in Geneva because of its selection of unique entree ingredients. I brought guests today for lunch, and they also loved it. My one guest said the Jimbalaya was the best he has ever had! I enjoy the pistachio + beet salad, and usually have it with salmon, which is cooked perfectly. I've also had the poke bowl-the tuna is excellent paired with the ginger glaze + charred pineapple. The brie burger is also good-the slightly acidic brie balances out the pear-bourbon jam. Speaking of bourbon-this is their nameclature. Many, many selections, but I usually order wine and like the two pinot noir offerings. The service is always great. We stayed today well beyond the busy lunch period, but the place is often hopping after 5. I hope you experience the care put into Barrel + Rye, and I recommend it.

The food is ALWAYS great here. We have tried many different things and have not been disappointed. The staff has been good each time and we have had very good service. We love the grilled cheese birria, and the amazing dipping sauce. The wings are awesome also, with the crumble blue cheese dressing.
There always seems to be someone standing and eating at the service end of the bar while they are working. Not sure why this would be allowed,
We can't wait to go back and have another great meal!

The food and whiskey is awesome. Get the tuna tartar, or the poke bowl. But we haven't gotten anything bad yet!!
Absolutely delicious food, great service. You need to solve the kitchen ventilation issue, no fun to smell like a restaurant when you leave a restaurant.

Good menu with very nice service. We are outdoors and had a great time. Averaged $50 per person. Don't like the trendy outdoor tables that leave no room for your feet.

We ordered there for the first time the other night. Food was good, but then my husband took another bite of his jambalaya and was chewing on paper from either a receipt or a ticket. I called the restaurant to tell them about the incident. Told them I saved the dish and had a picture. The person I spoke to on the phone took my information and told me his manager would call me back. I never received a call back from them. Very disappointed because the food actually tasted good.
Great food, great service. Casual relaxed vibe.
Oh goodness — I wasn’t sure what to expect when stopping in here at noon for lunch at a bistro, but I was blown away. I ordered the glazed salmon, and my wife had the birria grilled cheese.
Wow… it’s hard to put into words the flavor explosion from that salmon. The sweet notes of soy and teriyaki were perfectly balanced, and then, right at the end of each bite, a burst of citrus came through — making it quite frankly one of the best salmon dishes I’ve ever had anywhere.
My wife’s birria grilled cheese was a creative twist on the classic, and she enjoyed it thoroughly.
One note: seating is limited, so it might be worth calling ahead during busy times. That said, we had no trouble getting a table for Saturday lunch.
Such a fantastic place for a great meal — we will definitely be back!

This was the best meal from start to finish that I have had in quite a while. The atmosphere was nice and our waitress, Aly was great. She had great recommendations and was so very sweet. The old fashioned is a must try but I was sad that it did not come with the cherry. I also had the smoked Manhattan which was pretty good and the charcuterie board to start with. The strawberry jalapeno jam was not spicy and very flavorful, I had the shrimp and grits for dinner which was amazing and we finished with a brownie and ice cream for dessert.

For lunch: tables outside, few inside and you can sit at the bar. Very good food and service. Hamburger and salads were delicious. Too hot outside, so we sat at the bar.
