When I lived in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn in the 1960s and 1970s, there weren't any restaurants that rated reviews. Not to my knowledge. McDonald's on Roosevelt Road was the most popular gathering place in the community. Things have changed. Today, there are several go-to restaurants in the area. Start with Fire & Wine at 433 North Main Street in Glen Ellyn. Opened in 2012, it offers pizza, pasta and steaks in a spiffy environment. Open from 4 to 9 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 4 to 10 on Thursday, 11 to 10 on Friday and Saturday and 11 to 9 on Sunday, it is proof that you don't have to drive to downtown Chicago to enjoy a night out. I started with a bowl of lobster bisque and a sweet pea and shrimp salad with leafy greens, green goddess feta, green beans and strawberry puffed ferro. For my entree, I chose veal parmesan with veal cutlets, parmesan reggiano, mozzarella, linguine and house sugo. For dessert, it's hard to pass up a large slice of triple layer chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate icing. In fact, Fire & Wine has been so successful that it has opened other locations in Park Ridge and St. Charles.

My friends and I really are enjoyed ourselves. I had the burger which was pretty solid. Everyone seemed to like what they had. My friend had the zucchini fries which were like super thin and she thought they were fantastic. I would have preferred if they were more more like chunks than fries. If we lived in the neighborhood we definitely would go there a lot.

We celebrated our anniversary here last night and were served by Gail. She was lovely. She recommended the beignets for dessert and went so far to include some of her favorite sauces to pair with them. She made our experience more enjoyable - and she was totally right about the sauces. :)

This is probably one of the best spots for a date night in the western suburbs. Go find someone who is beautiful and great company, and sit outside or sit at the bar. You’ll meet a few more fun people, and the entire menu is fabulous. Afterwards walk around in Glen Ellen. The whole atmosphere is lovely. Extra points if you find an opportunity to dance with someone lovely. This place is best in good weather, but the bar is very cozy all times the year.
This was our last meal before becoming a family of four. Efren was a great server and can’t wait to go back again.
