This place is always a winner. Our favorite thing is to sit and the bar and share plates - unfortunately, I think it's a lot of people's favorite things to do, as the bar is often as packed as the tables. I'm not sure what a modern American bistro is. One definition is a neighborhood restaurant with community ties and a warm, cozy, inviting atmosphere. Food? A mix of French and Italian with an occasional foray into Asia in Latin cuisines. Get it? Maize & Mash offers such savvy items as home-made smoked brisket chili and Tempura Squash Burrata and Short Rib grilled cheese. Stopped in on a Tuesday for a burger, and so glad I did. Had the “maize and mash” burger and it was perfect— cooked perfectly medium-rare (as I had ordered), toppings were perfect including the runny fried egg on top, bun was light and not too chewy— just a great burger. Fries were excellent. Had a draft beer, a stout, to wash it all down. Service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend!
