From the friendly welcome to the professional and helpful service, then the deliciously healthy and beautifully presented food, Ema is a special dining experience. Dining at EMA was like being on vacation. The restaurant is beautiful and very comfortable. We were there for lunch and everything we ordered was delicious. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive without being overbearing.

I'd been here once before at lunch time, and so enjoyed the ambiance and menu - everything was truly lovely and surprising in the best ways. I thought it would be the perfect midway for meeting with friends coming in from a far northern suburb for a weekday get-together. We picked an early dinner hour, 5:30PM, to be sure they had plenty of travel time home before it got too late. When we arrived, there was a little buzz, but it wasn't too hectic, plenty of tables open, and we were seated right away. The dining room is soft, inviting, lush, lots of greenery which feels especially pleasing as the season is changing. Our server came over to introduce the menu and get drink orders. Off to a great start. And then we waited an hour without notice, before we felt compelled to ask another server to send someone over to take our food order. The manager arrived, took our order, and hurried off. As before, the food was wonderful, portions just generous enough for everyone to have a satisfying taste. The table was a little crowded, but workable. Spicy tuna was fresh and sumptuous. Brussels - so good! The almond and garlic spread a must-try, chicken kefta cooked perfectly. Our server walked by us a few times without comment during service, and then towards the end of our meal (nearly 8PM) came back smiling, asking if we wanted a sweet, and bringing our check when we declined. You remember the adage about people always remembering how someone made you feel? I really, really want to love Ema, and I would - the bathrooms are so gloriously clean and spacious, the soap smells great! - but service matters, and the inconsistency here is disappointing. I may wait again before inviting friends, but hope to come back to a better experience.

The decor is calm and beautiful. It is an open restaurant so it is a little noisy. The staff was friendly and the food delicious. We knew the plates were mezze and yet still smaller than expected.

My husband and I have eaten at Ema many times, it has been one of our fave restaurants. Unfortunately on this particular Sunday evening, the service fell seriously short. The appetizers we ordered and received were very good, appetizers and drinks arrived in a timely fashion. But our entrees were very late in arriving, so I had to ask our server (Sarah E) TWICE to please check on our order. She was busy, and just replied "don't worry, they are coming soon." After the 2nd time I inquired, and the 2nd time she replied that it was coming...we waited another 15 minutes (total of about 40 minutes with no food arriving), and one entree still had not arrived. We finally called our server over again and asked her to just cancel that entree and take it off our bill and bring the check. Several minutes later the manager arrived at our table and apologized. He explained that the kitchen had lost our order ticket, it had literally fallen down into a crack and went unnoticed by the cook staff until the manager inquired. Now why did our server not check, as I had asked her to twice before? On top of all that, even though I had clearly written the Lettuce Entertain You Mobile Code on the dining bill, she did not enter it, so I did not receive the points. I had to scan my receipt the next day and send it to Lettuce Entertain you so that I could receive proper credit. Wow. This is not the service I have been accustomed to at Ema. I hope this gets straightened out.

The strachetella and the fallafal bowl were excellent. And if the warm pumpkin hummus is still on the menu, try it--it's so flavorful. The service was also excellent.
