Hackney's on Lake is one of our favorite restaurants. Great hamburgers, onion rings the best! Fish and chips are wonderful. Waite staff very attentive. Drinks generous. Don't miss their Desserts! Every one a winner!
Another beautiful night on the patio. We ate at 7:00pm as the sun was going down and the temp was about 66*.... The patio is spacious, and far enough from the road to allow for conversations and night sounds. Food is always great. Had friends in from outta town and they loved it. Service was great. Great food, great service from server Joey!
Love this place. Year after year, great drinks and food. Love their hackney burger and onion straws are amazing.
Hackney's is a long time favorite of the Glenview community for informal dining. We enjoyed dinner with our friends here. Our waitress was friendly and the food was nicely prepared and tasty.
Between Covid and other obstacles it has been years since I've been to Hackney's. Wishing I'd have gone back sooner. The burgers were great, just as I remembered and their prices are very reasonable. We also had their signature fried onions as well as their cheese curds. Both were very tasty, though I thought the quantity on the curds was a tad light. Service was friendly and good. We were able to make a reservation online for an outside table. Really annoyed by restaurants that won't let you do that so yay for Hackney's! Their patio is also dog friendly so our mini bernedoodle was able to join us on a lovely summer night which we really appreciate. A+ Hackney's
Ordered the perch and found it absolutely flavorless and the actual fish was almost nonexistent. Should have ordered the cod. Cheaper even than perch. Onion rings were great as always. Husband liked his burger. Season the perch please with a few spiced, does not have to be salt and use the best pieces if you are going to charge 22.00 for a pathetic fish meal.
We were greeted by a gracious hostess and seated at an ample table for 6 on the patio on a lovely evening. We have been coming to Hackney's on Lake for many years, but experienced this as an "off night" for the kitchen and maybe for our server. It's difficult to describe, but my sandwich appeared to be made by an 8 year old. It came as a slice of dry bread with a piece of lettuce and a few slices of turkey, then another slice of bread crookedly placed on top. Not the usual sandwich I expected stacked with turkey, accompanied by tomato (ordered) and neatly sliced in two. Ok, so the server forgot the mayo and tomato, but what later arrived was a small slice of plum tomato. Quite unusual and not up to par for this restaurant. Others mentioned dry bread and unusually underwhelming Hackney Burgers. The tomato soup was tasty and the Hackney Smash Burger was a hit, though. I hope this was just an off night and not the beginning of a downhill slide for the beloved Hackney's.
Great place - a last minute decision to eat out as an extended family. Server was extraordinary- patient, efficient, engaging - dealing with a table of 12 from grands to grandparents.
We were disappointed in some of the food. They changed their French fries which were great before and now they are soggy and tasted terrible. The server was very good though. However due to the fries we will consider other restaurants before dining at Hackney's again.
My family has been going to all the Hackneys locations since the 50's when my Dad was in college. It has been host to many important family occasions. Including Hackneys on Lake. Always a favorite. The restaurant is a bit tired and is in desperate need of a face-lift. Also, why on earth did you change your French fries?! The new ones are not good. Fried onions and Hackney burger is and always will be my favorite.

The reuben egg rolls are a great appetizer. Wide variety of food choices. Love the atmosphere and the staff is very friendly.
Service was terrible. Five different people came to deliver our onion loaf to our table last night. We only ordered one order there must've been some confusion. Also, our waitress did not know how to split the bill and ended up charging us for our table and the table next-door. Manager came out to fix it and never reappeared. We had to leave because we had theater tickets. We were there for almost 2 hours due to their mistakes.Very disappointed.
Badly cooked burger in a stale bun and one of us did not get Cole slaw and both didn't get a pickle. Fries were good as well as the onion loaf.
40 years of eating hackneys - the burger and the onion straws are worth every penny . The cocktails and fries were worth every penny too
We ate at Hackney's on the Lake for the first time in 50 years! It hasn't changed. This was always a big treat if we ate here when I was a kid. The hamburgers are amazing and the onion ring stack did not disappoint. Our waitress was so nice, and very attentive. I would definitely go back the next time I am in town!
