Really nice family owned restaurant. The variety if food on the menu was great. The honey cake especially was amazing. The food portions were very generous and the price wasn't bad at all. The restaurant was beautiful decorated and the Martin's service was excellent!

What a hidden gem! Quaint restaurant with an Eastern European menu. Everything we had was delicious! We started with the chicken liver pate. We shared the Polish plate and it was so good. We tried the lavender martini which was yummy. The waitress and waiter/bartender were so sweet (even with a language barrier). Can't wait to go again.

The food was ok but it doesn’t really matter when you can’t enjoy the dining experience because the owner let 3 little kids under the age of 5 run around this small restaurant yelling, crying, pushing the chairs all around while their parents watched and thought it was so cute. The owner seemed to think it was cute too. When we asked him to do something, he just stood there and didn’t say anything. We asked for to-go containers, paid our bill and left. Said we wouldn’t be back.

This is one of the best restaurants for Eastern European food. I tried many many many Eastern European eatieries and restaurants, and Smetana is top notch. The food is very fresh and well prepared. My favorites are Borscht, Herring Beets Tartare (very hard to find anywhere else), and Kompot (this is the most well-balanced Kompot that I ever had - slightly sweet but still refreshing). On certain evenings, they have live music. We always have such a great experience at Smetana!

Booked a birthday dinner for a party of two on a rainy Friday evening. The venue is tucked into a little plaza. The restaurant itself is casual and cozy. And whatever music they were playing (a YouTube video of someone live mixing music in their studio?) was awesome. My friend and I were absolutely delighted to start our dinner off with a cytrynówka and espresso martini each. We shared an appetizer of chicken liver pate and split the Polish plate--a delectable serving of potato pancakes, pierogis, Polish sausage, and cabbage rolls (we picked the traditional tomato sauce). Of course, we made some room for dessert and topped things off with a generous helping of apple strudel. My friend even got a little slice of cake to take home for her birthday. Our server was incredibly kind and attentive. I would love to return and will be recommending Smetana to friends and family.

This is by far the best European Fusion I've ever been to! The pickled tomatoes as part of the pickle plate were surprisingly refreshing. The cabbage roll has deep and complex flavors. I'll definitely be back to try more options.

We came by this newish one year old restaurant and our party of 5, including two kiddos, enjoyed a big and delicious Polish lunch here. At least I think they were Polish as I never confirmed but they're Eastern European in any event. We had the following. Every dish was of tip top quality, flavorful, and beautifully presented, including their desserts. - Pan fried pierogies (10), $16 - Polish plate with a cucumber salad, $30 - Chicken schnitzel with a beet salad, $22 - Chicken shawarma, $15 - Large dessert crepe with nutella and berries, $15 - Honey cake, $8 The prices may seem a little high, but the servings are tasty and generous. For example, I'm usually ho-hum on pierogies, but their pan fried pierogies had delicate skins and a tasty beef-pork filling and I think they were the best I've ever had. I liked all the dishes but really liked all the items on the Polish plate, which you should enjoy with plenty of their namesake smetana or sour cream. One of the owners and also our very congenial server Martin told me about that translation. The beet and cucumber salads were also chilled and refreshing. Both desserts were also very good, but the delectable dessert crepe with fresh whipped cream, nutella, and berries was the better one. The strip-mall restaurant is smallish, but also stylish and cozy and the chairs and table setting were very comfortable. They had enjoyable pop music on. There is a small bar/counter area in the back corner and they had a nice looking list of drinks to go with their menu. Martin was our friendly server and I learned he was working alongside his brother Stan. Actually, our oldest grand-darling wondered if they were brothers from their looks, and she was dead right. Martin also told me the chef was a lady from Ukraine and with the short delay in bringing the food out, we could tell the dishes were all freshly prepared. Overall, a quality place with deserved high ratings, highly recommended, and a great addition to the Glenview food scene. We'll look to return to support this local family business, and best of luck!
