While visiting family over Christmas, our group walked across the street to Charlie's because we noticed a lot of people going there. The place was packed with friendly, happy people. There was only one bartender and she hustled with intention, a smile and a great sense of humor. We played darts most of the time, but I couldn't help but notice the atmosphere. 2 Bartenders IDed us as we walked in 10 minutes later "owner" came by demanding ID's. All other bars in Grayslake didn't have a problem with a vertical ID which the person turned 21 on Tuesday, 4 days prior, Not a single other bar had an issue. Only reason we went there was because it was the only bar open at 1:30am. Owner smelt like booze and cigs. Bartenders were cool, owner not so much. 2024 and still CASH only, no card!

Despite some missed opportunities to mingle with the crowd, the place is highly recommended for a casual drink and meeting new people. It is also known for its historical significance in the area.
