Cracker Barrel Old Country Store

I was disappointed this time at the restaurant by the smell. It smelled like urine and old. The food was great but hard to eat it because of the smell.

Kid-friendliness: The kids menu it’s a printed sheet in black and white where it’s hard to see the images. It was not kid friendly

Went for breakfast, waiter was sloppy and forgot multiple things. We should have known by the neck tattoos, he was a gem. Worked like it was first his day, but was just lazy. Took 20 min for our drinks...then everything was delayed or wrong. Had to ask 8 times for our additional sides. We will never return.

food portions where half as previous visits. all food was extremely cold. you could tell the food was sitting in the windows to be brought to us but it sit for an extended amount of time. the waitress was very pleasant and responded to all our requests promptly. I was EXTREMELY disappointed in the food quality!!

Service was excellent. Bonnie was an excellent server. Our food was good, but the corn muffins were too brown. Everything else was good.

My party didn't get our biscuits and corn muffins until we were finished eating. The server kept saying it would be a little longer, though other servers were bringing them out to their tables.

Wow..things have changed....out of food esp chicken ... biscuits and corn muffins hard as a rock... burnt end peice of meatloaf, cold dumplings and corn..no 4 pc chicken..got tenders and those were cold...you've gone downhill...only been to Gurnee location 4x in my life and this was the worst visit. Usually visit in wisconsin and Indiana and I've never been o disappointed in a cracker barrel meal $50.00 for what???

I have to get my Cracker Barrel fix once or twice a year, and while it is usually reserved for road trips between Chicago and St. Louis, sometimes a girl just needs their Mac and cheese.

As usual, everyone was very kind and welcoming but we were so sad to hear that the machine (that is how the waitress referred to it) that makes their southern fried chicken was broken. 😞

I have two main staples at Cracker Barrel- the grilled lemon-pepper rainbow trout and the southern style fried chicken.

We enjoyed the food we did order, I mean, it’s Cracker Barrel, no one becomes a roadside grandma’s cooking institution like that if the food isn’t exactly what it is supposed to be.

But I do hope they get that machine/appliance (whatever it actually is) fixed so we can enjoy the fried chicken the next time around, which sadly won’t be for another 6 months or so.

Maybe I should plan an impromptu roadtrip just for the excuse to go again?? 😋

I ordered shepherds pie & it wasn't available so I ordered pot roast & then server came back and said they were out of mashed potatoes & hash brown casserole so I got green beans. My husband ordered sampler with country chicken & chicken & dumplings but they ran out of dumplings so they substituted meatloaf which he didn't like. All of this took almost 2 hours. Luckily we didn't have anywhere to be sooner. Many people came & left before us.

Went here for dinner for my daughter's birthday and when we got our food my husband's food was cold and he got dirty silverware he complained to the manger and she replaced his food but when we got the bill we were charged for the cold food we had to complain to have it removed. We used to love going there plus the place was so dark we had to use our phones to read the menus. We don't think we will be dining there for a long time

We're very disappointed in our recent visit on 2.18.25:
1. Where to start; The tea was bitter and lukewarm at best, so we sent it back
2. Fried Pork chops looked great, but very dry - didn't eat
3. Turnip greens were not done, cold and chewy - didn't eat
4. Pancakes were DELICIOUS, warm and tasty
5. Biscuit Beignets were DELICIOUS with the warm butter sauce
6. The manager was not responsive to our concerns
7. Server was nice and took the tea off the bill

We've been loyal patrons for years and disappointed with the lack of attention.

I ordered the fish dinner with 3 sides one of the sides was seasoned rice which was hard and dried up. I have never gotten a side dish so bad. But either way that said the rest of the dinner was great. The fish was fried just right and the other 2 sides was great green beans and spiced apples. I had it delivered which took over an hour. But I don’t think it was the restaurant fault but the delivery service. My overall rating I give it a 4 stars
