Been here many times, the food and service are excellent. Soups, rolls, teriyaki, tempura and appetizers are all delicious. Servers always make you feel welcomed and appreciated.

Impeccable food, and some of the best service we’ve had in a very long time. We were looking for a sushi place to kill time while waiting for our kid and this far exceeded our expectations. What a gem! The food is amazing and the service is just so good we couldn’t believe it. They’re all so nice!

I have dined at Hayashi several times, but my experiences was disappointing. The sushi and sashimi were dry and tough, indicating a lack of freshness. While the tempura and miso soup were satisfactory—dishes that are relatively straightforward to prepare—the quality of the sushi and sashimi was lacking. Additionally, some tables were wobbly, which made dining uncomfortable. The restaurant's compact size also contributes to a lack of privacy, as conversations from adjacent tables are easily overheard. This environment makes intimate discussions challenging, so opting for takeout might be a better choice.

On a positive note, the staff were generally kind, especially during my visit with Filipino friends. However, an incident occurred where a waiter accidentally spilled miso soup on my friend. Regrettably, they neither replaced the bowl nor adequately cleaned the table, and no apology was offered. The waiter's concern seemed more directed toward potential repercussions from the owner rather than our experience as customers.

Upon realizing the staff were Filipino, I expressed my thanks in Tagalog when leaving, but received no acknowledgment. This led me to wonder if they preferred to maintain the restaurant's Japanese facade.

In summary, while the service had its courteous moments, the overall dining experience, particularly the quality of the sushi and sashimi, was disappointing. Given the ambiance, food quality, and the issue of wobbly tables, takeout might be a preferable option for those considering a meal from this establishment.

They've been in business for over 20 years. Must be doing something right. My first time here was 23 years ago, and it's still good. Keep it up.

One of the best Japanese place in the Greater Chicago Area. Reasonable price, friendly staff and amazing food! Just splendid.

Hayashi Japanese Restuarant was one of the first places we ate at when my wife and I moved here and thought it was really good. Everytime we have eaten here we have found the staff to be very friendly and the food quite yummy. We will be back for sure.

This place isn't one of those chain restaurants. You can tell the staff take pride in what they do.

The food was amazing! You can taste the freshness in every bite, especially in the sushi and sashimi, which are plated so beautifully and look almost too good to eat (like this Chirashi I just had). If raw food isn’t your thing, they also have delicious cooked dishes, like their tempura and teriyaki which are just as satisfying.

The flavors are bold but balanced. Nothing feels overdone. Dessert was a surprise, and the red bean mochi is a must try! They also have Ramune available, which adds a fun touch, especially if you’re opening a bottle for the first time.

The staff also went out of their way to make us feel at home with their kind and thoughtful service.

Hayashi is easily one of my favorite spots for authentic Japanese food. Can’t wait to go back!

Best service ever! Everyone is attentive and very friendly. They always have a home kind of vibe and you would always want to come back everytime! I was never a fan of sushi but their sky roll is the best! They are very kid friendly as well! Will definitely recommend!
