This is definitely a must go to if in the area. Just a down home Cafe with wonderful down-home cooking. The breakfast was great....love biscuits and gravy.

First time hereWith a slice of strawberry pie first I was barely able to finish the special; a huge bowl of ham & beans but the flavorful generous chunks of ham with the corn bread (more like fluffy cake) made it easy. Quick service and real food means I will be back

The place was filthy and didn't look like it had been cleaned since it first opened. First impression walking in, every table had crumbs and food stains. After I cleaned my table I started to further inspect the area. The walls, ceiling, blinds, table condiments, napkin holder, salt & pepper shaker all filthy. This was old filth from months if not years lack of basic cleaning. This is what the public can see, I can only imagine how disgusting the kitchen is! I will not be returning to the Herrin IL Burger Nook.
Food was over cooked horribly. The cook wore no gloves and kept taste sampling everyone's food from the fryers. He would wipe his sweaty forehead then reach in and grab a bite. Over and over. Not much room in the area to eat and seats seem to be built for children. Won't be going back.

This diner has been around for a very long time. The building is dated and there is a certain smell about the place. Not a smell that is horrible, just the smell of an older building. What offsets the older building smell is the food and service. The food was very good and much less expensive than Huddle House, Cracker Barrel, etc. The service was good. Friendly and attentive. Overall this is a good place to eat at a great value.
