I moved from Highland Park many years ago and hadn't been back to Max's until a couple weeks ago with a cousin visiting from CO who wanted a Jewish deli corned beef sandwich. I'm so pleased to say Max's has remained top notch over the years! Best Rueben anywhere! The potato pancakes were done perfectly and served with applesauce and sour cream, as they should be. The egg breakfasts two people ordered at our table were delicious. Even the pickles waiting on the table when you first sit down were fabulous--truly like fresh cucumbers that had been slightly pickled. The servers have a bit of attitude, all in fun, and wear shirts that say something like, "We're Italian Jews. We like food almost as much as bickering!" You can't go wrong ar Max's! Super highly recommended!

Granted, we have not been there since before covid; maybe these are new owners? The bus staff is the same, the waitresses not as much. We found the soups different and less tasty, as were the sandwiches. Lastly, where you could once get old pickles, now only salt cucumbers are available and the bread selection, just off as well; not so great.

Sometimes you expect the bare minimum and then there are those who are Extra and always give more. Max's was quite full when we came in a Saturday afternoon but they found a table for us. They immediately bring you glasses of ice water, some of their deli pickles and an overflowing basket of bagel chips, breads and butter. TBH you could just eat these and be full and leave. I just wanted a scoop of tuna salad and a bagel. They brought me a enormous scoop of tuna salad with onions, lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes. It was almost like a salad. Likewise my sesame bagel with an ice cream scoop sized chive cream cheese plus butter. Also my friend's BLT which was a towering BLLLLLLLTT. Were we full and satisfied after our meal? Maybe a little. Of course, what did you think I was leading up to! Service is friendly, full deli cases of tempting stuff.

Tried this place on the fly, amazing hot pastrami and hot corn beef. Not sure why anyone complained about the service, the service top notch. Bagel slices were great. We will be back! So good!

If you're Italian, or Jewish, or happen to love good food, this is your happy place. I'm none of those myself, but the upbeat casual atmosphere and large portions won me over. Not sure how many other old German-French guys love a perfect bowl of matzoh ball soup, but I sure enjoyed mine at this place. Oh, and the homemade kettle chips... don't forget those.

Been eating here for 15 years. My credit card bill was $5 to $7 higher than my reciepts. THEY (forged) INCREASED MY TIP AMOUNT ON BOTH MEALS. Service is also slow now.Adios MF,
