Charcoal House Tavern

Went there for the first time since relocating to Jerseyville today. I liked everything about this place except for the entrance which is not handicap friendly. The atmosphere was great, our waitress was phenomenal and the food was amazing. This place is well worth a visit

Sarah W was our server, she was very good! Met all our needs, very pleasant. The food was amazing! I got Chicken kabob, salad and baked potato. Everything was delicious, my husband got the peppercorn steak kabob, fries, salad. The fries were crispy and steak, perfect. And let me tell you there salads are fantastic. The ranch tasted homemade . We will be back!

Drove 30 mins tonight to eat dinner. Ordered wings as an appetizer. And 2 specials only one arrived at our table, we didn’t think much of it and thought the other one would be coming soon. 25 plus minutes later our waitress finally came back to our table to check on us and we asked about our other special and she did not even put the order in. We probably wouldn’t have been as upset over this has she of come back sooner. She did offer to put the order in but at this point first order was already cold and we were just ready to leave. We understand things happen every one makes mistakes but I’m not sure how you forget to put in someone’s whole meal.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant out for a while, so on a day off, I had errands to run and decided to order takeout from here. I got the double cheeseburger with a house salad. They were so good. The girl that waited on me was nice, and the inside of the restaurant was very cozy. I would have loved to sit and eat here.

Edit - went back a few times. Liked the chicken tender meal also. Good daily specials.

Great experience all around at charcoal house. First night got the $10 hamburger and fries special. The burger has a unique seasoning flavor that really makes it stand out. The fries were the perfect amount of crisp firmness. I liked it so much that I came back 2 days later and tried the kabob peppercorn steak. It was good and cooked medium just right. A surprise that was better than expected was the side salad with house made dressing. It was really good! Staff was very pleasant. There's a really nice outdoor seating area, but it's too cold when I came. I don't drink, so no review of the bar area. I'll be back when I'm in town.

The food has always been okay, nothing stands out. During the summer it's often too warm inside and uncomfortable. Not my favorite place to eat, but not too bad that we don't sometimes visit.

The manager Tia is very rude and does not treat her employees fairly in the slightest. Will no longer be getting my money.

Food was good but I will simply not be returning because of the hostile atmosphere. Not only was the manager, Tia, rude and arrogant to the customers, I witnessed her first hand being unnecessarily disrespectful to some of the workers and have even heard she fired an amazing worker without reason or even explaining the situation to her. If you want to go somewhere with friendly management, I wouldn’t recommend the charcoal house. Sad to say I won’t be back.
