Whether you're looking for an incredible bfast, lunch, or dinner... YOU WILL BE LUCKY to find this hidden Riverside gem of a restaurant.
For bfast, I highly recommend the Mexican Avocado Toast. For lunch, the Mai Mai wrap offers great value. For dinner, I find the Red Snapper irresistible.

Went out for Taco Tuesday with my family to also celebrate a birthday. The service was great - food was very good and I loved the cozy atmosphere of the bar/restaurant. The kind of place you could drop in to anytime, date night or casual - I'll be back!

Our senior group from church met here for bkfst. We had 14 people. We had called ahead to notify them of possible 15 people. They only had one server to wait on us plus she also had to see to other customers that came in. The food was delicious but some got food as others were just about finishing.
Didn't like that they-or their software- automatically applied the credit card charges on every bill. When asked they rectified them.

Best sit down Mexican in the McHenry area! Conveniently located on the fox river with docks so you can access it by boat or car. Outdoor seating is nice views of the water but I wish they would get more comfortable chairs instead of picnic tables for out there. The inside is nice and there are slot machines if that is your thing. Some of our favorites are the queso with chorizo as a starter, birrira quesadillas, tortas, and pastor tacos. For breakfast I love their Mexican omelette and chiliqueles with steak. Also love their horchata. Must try if you like Mexican for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Our go-to spot for taco Tuesday!!! The chorizo is by far my favorite - the flavor is amazing - it is savory but has a bit of a kick to it. I also like the carne asada & al pastor area! This is the only place I will go for authentic Mexican food in the McHenry/Johnsburg area. They always have great service, a welcoming atmosphere & it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a nice meal with river views on a nice day.

Wow! Located Along the Fox River. A fantastic menu-American and Mexican. We shared a skillet! So glad we did! Large portions. The Gyro skillet had great flavors. Spinach, scrambled eggs, a Gyro meat, feta and crispy hash browns. A great start to our day. Wonderful service.
Absolutely some of the BEST food around!!!

My wife and I tried Grandma Kitchen today for the first time after I read wonderful reviews and comments on social media. They are on the Fox River, so we came by boat on Sunday morning around 8:15 for breakfast.
Boating to a resturaunt is a fun thing for us to do, but the docks are a very important part of our overall experience. For the boaters out there, the docks are in good condition and the tires are sufficent to protect your boat without deploying fendors. It isn't in a no wake zone, so tie off good as your boat will get bounced around as the river gets busy.
The atmosphere inside was very clean and pleasing to the eye. It is a bit of surprise how nice it is when you consdier it from the outside. But if you go in, you will be pleasantly surprised. They also have picnic tables outside with great views to the river. There were already people there early on a Sunday morning, and some appeared to be regulars at the bar. Pick up orders were going out too, so that increased my confidence in the quality of food.
Not only was the quality very good, but the portions were generous too. I had the pancake combination. It came with three huge pancakes, two eggs, hashbrowns, and meat. It was more than I could eat.
I had one unresolved issue that made me give this 4-stars instead of 5. Of my three very large pancakes, one was charred and tasted burnt. Not one to complain in resturaunts, when Jose checked in our food after we were served, I pointed it out to him. I expected him to offer to remake the burnt one or provide some other compensation (perhaps on the bill). He did not. Given our experience up that point in time, it was surprising and disappointing.
The prices aren't shocking overall, but $4 for a cup of coffee (even if they are delivered in wonderfully pleasing mugs) was steep.
At it's core, Grandma's Kitchen is a mexican resturaunt, but they did traditional American breakfast very well too. I will go back to try other things including their Mexican fare.
