I’ve been going here for over fifty years. The place has changed owners a few times I think. The service and food is fantastic. One of the best bbq places to go. The sauce is unique and unmatched by anyone. The people there are friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend.
By far the best Carolina style BBQ sandwich in Southern Illinois and a lot of other places I've been. Start with a slow smoked ham. Slice a pile of it razor thin. Grill it up so the edges are crispy brown. Stack it on a fluffy toasted bun. Order the large!
Dixie BBQ is perennially one of the best BBQ places anywhere, voted one of the best BBQ experiences on the Chicago Tribune's Best BBQ in Illinois review, particularly its thin-sliced layers of BBQ pork shoulder with crispy, bacon-like edges, piled on a bun and served in an old-fashioned diner basket. If one desires yuppy-decor, however, perhaps one should patronize a chain like Bandana's, etc. and not clog the wait-line for the locals.
