We recently dined at The English Room at the Deer Path Inn and had a lovely experience. We started with the Wedge Salad and it was decent, though not particularly memorable. It was missing some of the ingredients that were listed on the menu. I had the Mushroom Risotto, which was absolutely fantastic! It was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. My husband opted for the Airline Chicken, and he thoroughly enjoyed it, praising its tenderness and seasoning. For dessert, we indulged in the Big Arse Chocolate Cake, which was as decadent and delicious as its name suggests! We sat outside so the photos are a little dark. The service was top notch! The atmosphere is why we will be coming back, it is something you have to experience in person. We then explored the lobby and became very interested in the history!
Overall, it was a delightful evening with some standout dishes, and we look forward to visiting again.

Literally the worst service of any high-end restaurant in the Chicagoland area. For example it took 40 minutes to get water and we sat without silverware for 20 minutes after being served our appetizer. Other tables were just as upset and there is a reason why recent reviews are complaining about the service just as us. When I asked for a manager while we were walking out, a guy in a tshirt ran up and when I asked if he was the manager he replied “yeah I guess”. This place has gone down hill completely. There are so many other places to go for a special occasion or date night than this. Don’t waste your time.
The food made us all a bit sick (too much grease, oils), they forgot to celebrate a birthday we had pre-arranged which was very disappointing, and they sent us wrong food. On the plus side the outdoor patio is nice, but I'd recommend against this place as the food & service is not at a quality level.

I visited today to book a table for my birthday celebration. Previously, my friend celebrated her birthday here, and everything was fine. They sat outside and even had a flower decoration. However, I couldn't reach the restaurant by phone and they never called back.
Today, I drove 50 minutes from my home to make a reservation. Upon arrival, I was informed that they do not take reservations for outdoor seating; it’s on a first-come, first-served basis. The woman at the front desk was very unwelcoming, as if I was intruding into her home.
This surprised me, especially since we recently celebrated my friend's birthday there. When I asked if my husband and I could sit on the terrace with plenty of empty tables outside and inside, I was simply told "NO."
The restaurant is beautiful, but the staff is unwelcoming and condescending. The front desk woman today was particularly disappointing.
Older assistant chef was screaming and causing a scene. Felt very awkward. Will not be returning.

Although it was too warm to eat outdoors, the room with the wall of windows next to the garden feels like dining al fresco. Tasty food as always with friendly staff to take care of things. Gorgeous birthday dessert too.

Our party of six had a wonderful time! Our waiter was fantastic and food was delicious! Good selection. We enjoyed onion soup, halibut, salmon, Dover sole which were all very good. The food was brought out at the same time piping hot. French fries are super good! A must visit. Reservations required. Beautiful room and the hotel is really impressive!

Beautiful room, attentive service, and generous servings of excellently prepared dishes. The desserts are excellent, though the types were limited. I loved the chocolate cake - it was huge. I love the restaurant and will definitely return.
Dietary restrictions: The kitchen addressed all my dietary restrictions due to my many food allergies. Made adjustments without compromising the flavor of my dishes. Amazing!

Our first experience at this place and we were let down. Our waiter did apologize at the end of the meal and give us a free desert. But, from the amazing recommendations and reviews we had much higher expectations. I’m 6 months pregnant so I’m not drinking but my husband is. I ordered a non-alcoholic Paloma and my husband an old fashioned. My drink looked very festive, but took literally 3 sips and it was empty because it was all ice. We were very surprised also once we got the bill and it costs exactly the same as the old fashioned that had alcohol. Very confused what we paid for. We ordered the spicy calamari for an appetizer which tasted great, then French onion soup. While we were eating the calamari the waiter took our entree order. Props to the kitchen for speed because just a few minutes later the entrees arrived while we were still finishing the calamari and didn’t have the soup yet. The waiter had also forgotten the sprite I asked for because my “mocktail” was already empty. They took the entrees back and we had the soup, so maybe about 25-30 mins after we first saw the entrees they brought them back out on extremely hot plates. They were obviously kept under the heat lamp and not made new. My husband got the filet and it was good. I got the duck, and it was lukewarm. The duck could’ve been cooked better because the fat on it was chewy and I could barely cut it with my knife. All in all, a disappointing experience for what’s supposed to be one of the nicest restaurant in the NorthShore. The free desert was a piece of chocolate cake with a scoop ice cream. Ice cream was great, cake was okay.

The food was outstanding & the wait staff has improved a bit since our last visit 3 months ago, but…. I can’t figure out why they won’t take a reservation, made well in advance, when there are often many empty tables in evidence. Perhaps they’re waiting to see if hotel guests will go to their dining rooms, but what’s happening is that area residents are complaining they can’t get in & therefore no longer frequenting this restaurant. The Deerpath Inn is a long standing favorite in Lake Forest, but they are losing the support of their faithful local patrons.
The ambiance is wonderful, but the food does not match, too bad. Portions were way too large and both meals were blah . Disappointing lunch overall .
Really nice place. Came for the full English breakfast. It was okay. Would get it again but would like to come back for something

A friend of mine and I wanted a quiet vet elegant place for brunch. We chose The English Room for Sunday Brunch. The setting is very elegant yet cozy, making you feel right at home. The chairs are padded, meant for you to linger. The buffet was beautiful even though our reservation was for late Sunday afternoon. The carving station meticulously tidy as were all the selections. The pastry and bread assortment was very Euorpean, plumply filled in and inviting. There was such an array of choices it was hard to decide what to select. The poached salmon was exceptional, flavored perfectly. My friend had the roast beef, exquisitely roasted just pink enough to be perfect. The sauages were meaty and not greasy. Pastry first class as was the service. Must go. We were not rushed but encouraged to linger.
