Came for dinner with a group of 4, on a weeknight. The ambiance is very inviting with moody lighting and tasteful decor. It was quite a calm and relaxing environment- and you would never guess you are sitting in a strip mall off of noisy Algonquin Road. We took advantage of the Tuesday half-off deal on wine by the bottle (under $100). I had seaweed salad and the shrimp/scallops entree- which came with tempura vegetables and miso soup. Hubby had ceviche, and maki- crazy and dragon. Everything was delicious. After, we had green tea and mango mochi. Our server was very friendly and prompt. Had a great time!

Sushi was good, fresh, and a little different from other places which I as fun! Cocktails were amazing. Waitress was friendly and made excellent suggestions. Atmosphere had oddly dark lighting, and tables were really close.

My wife and I have frequented Bistro Wasabi over the years. This is a wonderful place to come for an intimate dinner. Their food is outstanding, and the atmosphere is great. I highly recommend it! 10/10

We cane in for a late lunch, wanting to keep things pretty light. We ordered the Teriyaki sampler, california roll, and shrimp tempura roll. Everything was delicious and the service was perfect. My favorite was the ambience. The lighting was great and the interior is very elevated and very surprising being found in a regular strip mall. 10/10

It is a nice place and the food was delicious. The inside is welcoming, and there is plenty of room. Bar has lots to choose from, and the atmosphere is pleasant.

I recently visited this cafe, and I have mixed feelings about my experience. On the positive side, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. However, I was disappointed with the alcoholic cocktails. They were extremely watered down with mineral water, to the point where they tasted like mineral water with ice and no alcohol at all. This was quite a letdown.

Been going to Wasabi since they opened back in 2001. Never had a bad meal, service always good and consistent. By far best sushi in McHenry county or within Chicago area.

My wife and I used to come here on date night. We stopped after two consecutive failures on the food quality. The Basil Chicken Pot Stickers are always great. The sushi seems to have gone downhill.
My wife is not a sushi fan, so she would get something like Larry David would (Chicken Teriyaki!) but I would get the sushi entree usually. Last few times, the fish was warm, like, not room temperature, but warmer. Last time, I was really choking it down and had to leave the last two pieces untouched as I could just not finish it.
I love sushi but there are two things that turn me off:
1) Too large of a piece where it cannot be eaten in one bite.
2) Warm and slightly slimy, indicating it is not fresh.
When both are combined, it really turns me off and makes me really hesitant to return. I might be spoiled as I learned sushi in a small Georgia town which had a lot of Japanese companies, and what followed were extremely excellent sushi restaurants.
Then again, you can go to Elk Grove Village and hit up Kurumaya Japanese Restaurant and see what real Japanese food is about.
I think this place has lost its mojo and maybe needs some more true sushi chef influence.
