Pat was a horrible shop attendant, pace of play was horrible. Normally it’s very good but this was horrible today
Fantastic course
Staff are always friendly and on the ball here. We played #1 this time, and it is a nice course. A tad shorter and more open than #2, which is our usual go-to, but still a good challenge. The course was busy but moved along at a good pace.
The Ravines course (2) is always fun to play. My only grievance, as with most courses, is the price. Charging $62 to ride and $42 to walk after 3pm is kinda steep....just sayin.
I played the No. 4 Dubsdread while I was in town. The course is well designed with a strategic layout. Accuracy is more important than distance here. All greens are surrounded by bunkers with fast rolling speed. It definitely takes strategy to determine how to approach the green.
While I enjoyed playing this course, the condition of the green needs a lot of improvement. Every green was filled with sand spots and rolled lines. This was beyond aeration condition. It is not worth the full price.
This is an all encompassing review from my experiences at Cog Hill from playing Courses 2,3 and 4. We played Course 3 on a fall weekend and while the course was in peak conditions, the pace of play was an unholy level of slow. Over 5 hours and 15 minutes was spent on the course and while the price point is good for 1 and 3 I can enjoy 4-4.5 hour rounds elsewhere.
This spring I played Number 4 (Dubsdread) and Number 2 (Ravines) the two more premium courses. Yes I know it's April/early May golf, but upkeep was a far cry from courses like Glenview Park, Glencoe, Winnetka, and even Sydney Marovitz. While I hear the rates jump up in high season, I'm not sure I would spend that much. Pace of play was better than no. 3, there was a slight rain out on our Dubsdread round but otherwise the weather had been good. Ravines was a much better pace but we were able to play that because the tee sheet was empty. Now for the tee sheet. Coinciding with other reviews, the club has definitely lost some of its luster and doesn't live up to its top 100 public rating it received a few years ago, which is apparent as tee times are not difficult to get.
Onto the conditions: Weeds on weeds on weeds for both no. 2 and 4. The rough is dense with dandelions which is shocking because I honestly don't see dandelions at any other public facility I've played this spring. Our round on Dubsdread had also been after recent punching (carving up) of the greens which wasn't mentioned by the pro shop, which didn't appear to be done properly. Rangers on Course 4 were seemingly on a power trip, despite not notifying players of cart path only after the rainfall. Contrarily, all was fine on Ravines until hole 9, where grounds crews were actively re-sodding the landing area for tee shots on the Par 5! Not sure why on a nice morning round they would have that take place, nor was it divulged to us pre-round.
As for the layout and experience: 2 and 4 are challenging, with 2 being a better for a teens handicap and 4 being a bit too long for my abilities. While I would like to play 2 and 4 again during peak season, I'm not sure the price increase is justified. Golfers looking for a destination top 100 course that's hosted tour events in decades past will probably be left disappointed in the product for the price.
Beautiful venue
Really accommodating and a nice course. I will note that conditions at the time of review are typical of spring, but the course is still maintained well.
Taking the family there for Easter and I hope it's good.
Zero stars for course #1. Unbelievably bad from start to finish. A little bit of rain had come through the day before and it was cart paths only. Ok, fair enough, but then we had to divert several times from the cart path early-on just to avoid the sprinklers that were creating a muddy mess around the course. They have tiny hand-drawn hole markers to let you know where to go which caused us to get turned around more than once when we inevitably missed the tiny visual cue to turn. They literally had drawn the hole numbers in Crayon. Probably Temu crayons, not even Crayola. The few times we were actually in the fairway we noticed there were lots of divots that appeared to be quite old, with little to no effort to fill these and properly maintain the course. Not coincidentally they do not have sand bottles on the course or carts, like literally anywhere. When I inquired about this the greenskeeper said they prefer to let the overworked and underpaid course maintenance folks fill them, which they obviously don't get to. Next up is the bunkers. I have to imagine folks who are unfortunate enough to play shots from the beach would like to rake the bunker for the next groups coming through. Oh but not at Cog Hill, they don't put out rakes! Not just one bunker, every frickin' bunker, no rakes. At around 1:30 we were making the turn and proceeded to get stuck behind the mower for three holes. The mower was absolutely in no hurry to allow us to get through and replacing tee markers was not a priority. This caused us to tee it up wherever the hell we thought was about where the Whites would be. As we concluded our round I returned to the Pro Shop to return my rental clubs. In order to rent clubs you must leave your Driver's License with the Pro Shop staff, not a problem, until they lost it. For about 20 minutes my license was simply lost. Alas, they finally found it in some random location because they don't have a consistent process to coordinate club rentals. This was the cherry on top of a wild day at Cog Hill #1. An utter embarrassment to golf courses. I've never played Dubs dread, and I imagine it's pretty great, but this experience has soured me so much on anything Cog Hill I will not be back to play Dubs. It's a sad state of affairs over in Lemont, IL.

Played No 1. Just punched greens are tolerable but there was no sand and they weren't even rolled. Putting was a joke. All the boxes were beat up. Traps hopefully just weren't filled yet because they were unplayable. Very rare actual bathrooms which proved problematic for the ladies. Even the carts were beat up. I've played better park district and forest preserve courses.
Range is decent though. Extremely crowded but nice.
The course is soaking wet. The greens are not maintained. Our tee time was 10:50A we finished at 5:45P. No marshall because of budget cuts, trees and branches down all over the course. It was easily the worst experience I’ve ever had here.
Played course number one today, started the day off with a two hour frost delay, which I can understand is not entirely their fault. Then proceeded to play the worst greens I have ever seen in my golfing career, I could empathize with the fact that they were just aerated however they have not been rolled clearly and it seems there’s been no attempt to make them playable. Since 2020, Coghill has consistently overcharged and under delivered. Do not waste your money, go play somewhere else
#2 is a beast and my favorite
Great looking golf course and really fun to play. Most of their courses are open all year and they have some of the best hotdogs.
