Took my boyfriend for his 74th birthday it was a very disappointing experience. Took 10 minutes to get a drink order, when they came we order a Corona and a monito. They came back 10 minutes later they don't have the beer and no mint for the mojito.Ok we order another beer warm no glass, no silverware, no water, no sharing plates. I asked for bread, they do not serve bread. We ate coconut shrimp it was good but to share we needed plates. We ate too of a napking. Dinner was not tasty i had to order hot sause for taste. The one good thing was the rum cake . Will not return.

I wish we had a restaurant like this in Florida!! Best Caribbean spot I have ever had!!! The oxtail bowl and fried cabbage snapped! Everything was seasoned with love and just amazing!

The jerk chicken was fire imo. Super flavorful despite the spice level (I hate when flavor gets lost in spice.) They have a coconut bread cake that is to die for (I bought Caribbean coconut ice cream at target to pair it with) and their drinks are very strong definitely do not disappoint. The sweet plantains were delicious and the oxtails were amazing as well. The rice and peas were just okay, a little bland but easily dressed up with sauce from your meats.
Service was on the slower side, I didn’t mind because I was enjoying conversation and vibes.
The atmosphere reminded me of Sunday brunches back home so I loved it, tropical, sophisticated and cozy all at the same time.
Definitely hope to be back soon!

The food was delicious! We got the oxtail plate, jerk chicken dinner, goat curry, and coconut shrimp. The restaurant was clean, and our waitress was friendly and provided great service. I wish I would've tried this place earlier!
Came here for happy hour and it was worth the stop! Very clean and open space with the Caribbean theme all around. The waitress made yummy, strong drinks, very friendly, and personable. There's a photo stand, a live music stage, and plenty of seating. The food was delicious, big portions, very flavorful with the right amount of heat. The only cons is that the barstools are sort of uncomfortable and some of them were broken. Overall though definitely check them out!

In my opinion, the restaurant could use a makeover to make it feel more inviting. We weren’t greeted when we came inside. It was taco Tuesday, they were good but a bit small, fair for the price…I liked the chicken taco more than the steak. My pasta was a bit disappointing, I paid $5 for extra shrimp and they only threw 4 pieces in… and I found the pasta to be oily instead of saucy. I just had better expectations, it had a nice flavor however a bit spicy but the chicken saved the dish. I asked the guy working there about the shrimp portion and he just responded with “it’s out of my control” and that he’d have to ask the cooks in the back, he didn’t make an effort to resolve the issue or anything. I said “well now I know I guess.” Safe to say I won’t be ordering that again, save the $5 and don’t get the extra shrimp. My partner said they enjoyed the chicken curry, no complaints. I would come back again, I like how many options they have on the menu but I wish the service was better. Our waiter also was watching tv and not that attentive even though it was only us and one other couple in the restaurant.

Always great food and good vibes!
I travelled to Chicago from Arizona to attend my son’s Naval bootcamp graduation & this place was close to the hotel his girlfriend was staying at. Nothing special about the decor or ambiance, but the waiter was really nice. (I’m sorry, I don’t remember his name) I had just eaten a few hours prior, so I wasn’t really hungry, so I ordered the kids salmon with a side of plantain. It was really good. The salmon was cooked just as I like it. My son ordered the o tails & I tried it. Could have bit a more tender, but the flavor was delicious. My husband had the jerk chicken tacos & he said they were better than tacos we’ve had in AZ. We had no problem with the service. Our food came out in a timely manner & we were able to converse for a while without being bothered. I would definitely recommend this place & return the next time I’m in town.

Caribana – Island Bar and Grill is, without question, the best Caribbean food and service in all of Lake County. Hands down. From the tender, fall-off-the-bone oxtail to the rich, flavor-packed étouffée, every dish tastes fresh and crafted with true love and intention.
The vibe is always right—warm, inviting, and full of that island energy that makes you want to stay a while. And let’s talk about Soul Food Sundays… an experience all on its own! Comfort, culture, and flavor in every bite.
If you’re looking for delicious food paired with an unforgettable atmosphere, make your way to Caribana – Island Bar and Grill. You won’t be disappointed.

Restaurantji Recommends
Looked great but as soon as we walk in the waitresses are arguing about who has to take us. No one wanted to take us. First time walking in and walked straight out.
Add: firstly, yes 1 high chair for entire restaurant is a problem but I get it. Not many kids must go. However we understood and said it was fine and stood there while the 2 waitresses argued over who had to take our table you guys still sat there arguing to see who had to take it.

First time visiting and I was craving some good Caribbean food, but I left a little disappointed. The sides weren't exacatly what I was expecting and the jerk was just mediocre. The drinks, however, were excellent; definitely the highlight of the meal. What really saved the experience was our Manager, she was amazing! Her great service is very welcoming.

I went today for the first time and my whole e experience was a disappointment. The drinks are NOT strong taste like juice and came in a plastic cup for 12 dollars definitely not worth it.!! And if you get a to go container they charge you for it OR even order food to go they charge you a to go supplies charge. Pay attention to your Receipt! Food is oka but pricey. And if you order the rasta pasta it only comes with 4 shrimp ugh..so much for quality, and small portions, if your hungry this is not the place. I had better Jamaican food at JERK and MORE TOO in north Chicago has better Jamaican food and they DON'T charge for to go supplies. And you definitely get more than 4 shrimp with there Alfredo, its soooo...good, good portion size. And it's a bar right next door, strong drinks and good food. Perfect combo 👌
