The Detroit pizza was good, but the toppings are exactly was is missing in other pizza places these days. The sausage was perfect as well as the veggies on the pizza. They could have had had more pizza sauce on the pizza though. I would still rate the pizza the best in Lake County and in the top 3 in the Chicagoland area.

Fantastic party space! I hosted a restaurant, deck, patio buyout and it was incredible. People raved about the food, especially the chicken of course, but even more importantly was the staff and environment that allowed my clients to become guests. Everything I asked of the staff was made available to me by the venue and we worked together to make the event exceptional. 100% recommend for a private event to be held at Joanie’s! Ask for Jimmy to help get the details just right. They even helped drop the sweets on my display while I was handing a host emergency, so they remained on time. Mike and team rock!!! 200% recommend.

My husband and I have visited this restaurant on several occasions and I can tell you the food is absolutely delicious. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. Whether they are your server or not, staff circulate to ensure all guests are taken care of. Would highly recommend!

Cute place, nice outdoor patio, food is good, absolutely terrible service and poor management. Tried it a second time last weekend, and waited 20 mins for a server to even acknowledge we were there, which never happened. My lady approached the host and inquired if we had a server and he said he would send one. Meanwhile a pair of tables were cleaned and combined for a group of 9 that came in at least 15 mins after us and when the server finally entered our room they skipped out 3-top and went to to them first. That was the last draw. We got up and walked out. Our first experience wasn’t much better although we actually got to order before waiting over an hour for our food. We hoped that the service just had a bad night, but it’s clearly the standard. None of the tables in our area saw a server while we were there. No none checked in. Never again.

Best waitress ever! I wish I knew her name. Great food. And the waitress even brought out a hot cookie with ice cream for my wife's birthday! Wonderful meal.

We visited Joanie's Pizzeria during Strawberry Fest, and it was one of the highlights of our weekend! We had an amazing time with our family, and the food, atmosphere, and service were all outstanding.

A special shoutout to Jimmy behind the bar and his entire staff—they took excellent care of us from the moment we arrived. Jimmy was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. The whole team worked together to create a welcoming, fun environment that made us feel right at home.

If you're looking for great pizza, excellent service, and a place that truly values its customers, Joanie's Pizzeria is a must-visit. We can't wait to come back!

Our first visit to Joanie's was absolutely worth the trip! My family and I stopped by during the Strawberry Fest, and even though they were extremely busy, the wait moved much faster than we expected. The staff was fantastic, from the host to our server, everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome.

The pizza was hands down some of the best we've ever had. I live in Chicago, where we're spoiled with amazing food, but Joanie's has officially become my new favorite pizza spot. I'll gladly make the drive for family pizza nights because it's that good.

Thank you, Joanie's for such a wonderful experience. We can't wait to come back!

Incredibly disappointed in the slow moving staff!! I stop by yesterday at around 5pm at Joanie’s. (6/26/26) We were sat very quickly inside the dining room by a host that was at least semi cordial to myself and my boyfriend. We sat down by the patio doors, so the light was shining on us and we weren’t hard to miss. I immediately looked around to figure out who our server was, and there seemed to be no one around. A busboy emerged, and was slowly cleaning 2 dirty tables. I tried to get his attention, but he wouldn’t even glimpse at us. His job was to bus and didn’t seem to care about the patrons (us) around him. (While it’s not his job to greet us, I expected an environment where staff helped each other, and expected for him to at least tell someone we were waiting or just got sat. I worked in restaurants before, and that’s common practice. Also, why didn’t the host tell anyone? Please note that the dining room was not busy at all.)

When I realized the busboy would be no help, I then searched for someone else in service. Finally, I noticed the waitress, a short skinny woman with extremely tangled hair in a hat walking incredibly slow. She was closing out three tabs, and giving the checkbooks to the other patrons there. I tried to wave her over but she didn’t even dared to look at my direction. Another 5 minutes pass, and during that time the waitress, busboy, and host were walking in and out of the dining room, yet somehow actively trying not to look at us. The host then sits a family across from us.

I predicted what would happen to us straight away, and 5 minutes later it came true. For 15 minutes, no one acknowledge my boyfriend and I, who are obviously Latino. I told my boyfriend, if they end up getting greeted first, we are leaving. Mind you before the white family was greeted, I watched the host look around for that raggedy haired waitress. I’m sure he wanted to help her out and be a team player by greeting them. I watched him search around the room for her, somehow still avoiding my general direction, and he still did not meet my eyes or the general area of the dining room that I was seated by(literally 5 steps away). He took it upon himself to help the waitress and greet those white guests first.

Not once were we told by any staff that our waitress was coming, no one tried to greet us with at least a cup of water, and it seemed like no one wanted to wait on my boyfriend and I. I knew straight away that we were going to have to wait longer to be acknowledged, and I got up with my boyfriend and walked out.

I knew that historic downtown Long Grove came with old school values and morals, with racism being a part of them, yet I expected human decency. Joanie’s pizza should check their bias, or at least keep a system where staff knows who got sat first. Staff communication needs to be worked on.

Nevertheless, I can’t wait to come back to Joanie’s, because this time, you guys only got a bad review. Next time, l’ll make sure to call out your bias.

TLDR; staff worked incredibly slow and didn’t acknowledge us. Greeted a white family first over the Latinos who got sat down first and been waiting for over 15 minutes for service.

We walked into Joanie's around 1:45 on a Friday afternoon, during a local festival. We had no idea what to expect, and when we saw the menu we were surprised with how few items were on it, one of them being Detroit Style Pizza. We ordered fried Wisconsin Cheese Curds, and a small pizza with only cheese.

The curds came pretty quickly with ranch dressing, and were very good. The rectangular pizza was cut into six squares, and had the dark browned cheesy edges as expected. It was really good! The cheese and sauce both tasted great, and edges were crunchy but did not taste burnt. Maybe the small menu is their secret to getting their food just right. If we are back in the area, we will return to Joanie's.

NOTE that Joanie's was also operating a kiosk at the street festival; I don't know if this limited their menu selections at the restaurant.

There is indoor and outdoor seating, with a nice view of trees and water behind the restaurant.

(The pictured pizza was 4 of the total 6 squares.)

Pretty place to sit outside for lunch on either the covered or open patios.
