I think this might be the best restaurant in Mattoon. Food is fresh and beautiful. Spiced perfectly. Lots of choices. If you like creole food or are looking to try it, you should definitely go here.They are cash only but it’s worth it.

Walked in at 1pm when they closed at 2pm, just to get turned away for service. My mom came from an hour away to have lunch at this specific restaurant with me. So disappointing.

Posted hours say they open between 11 and 2. We got there at 1:15 and they said they were closed. We pointed out that their posted closing time was 2:00 pm and they said that wasn’t their fault. Could not have cared less!

Complete disappointment! We got there at 1:15 pm and they said that they were closed. According to the Google posting they are supposed to be open until 2:00 pm. We had diverted all the way in from I57 specifically to dine here.
When I asked the lady what time they actually closed at, the answer more-or-less was “it depends, but you’re usually best get here before 1:00”. Suggest you call ahead before driving all the way into Mattoon like we did.

I had the Bahamian Gumbo and Cuban Roast Chicken w/ Munster & Guava Preserves. Both were incredible.

Just ate here for the first time and this is some really good food! I had the Cuban Steak Tips that was served with rice with black beans and a really nice bright slaw. The steak tips were very tender and a great Cuban flavor, like I've found at Cuban places in the Florida Keys. This is legit! Not a cheap place to eat but the food is good!

This place is definitely a hidden gem. It's only M-F, 11-2, but if you can manage it come here. It is a little pricey but thats only because of this area. It's about $20-$30/person BUT the quality of the food is just stellar! The menu is so different and their specials are fantastic. It's just not your average soup, sandwich, salad place. Everything here is just next level. Absolutely a weekly place to eat.

This is such a break from the same old coles county restaurants. Nothing in this county comes close to what you can get here.The flavors are light and breezy yet bold. The prices are high but for good reason, and the smell of this place hits you like a truck when you walk in, in the best way possible.As complaints go, the best one you can have is I want more food at more hours of the day. Hard to take friends here when we all work 9-5s. Doesn’t affect my score though, as the food is so good it’s worth the planning it takes to go there.

Such a delicious lunch!! I glt the fried grouper sandwich lunch special and it was amazing, along with the Hemingway tea. A great spot while I'm in town for work. Hopefully they will start taking credit cards soon so I can come more often and expense it :)
