I went to the original burger king! It was pretty good. Much better than the chain burger king. I tried the double burger with fries and a cherry shake. The shake is my favorite but the fries were so yummy too

Fun bit of history behind this place. Back in the 1950s, this local restaurant in Mattoon opened as Burger King and legally trademarked the name in Illinois before the national chain ever arrived. When the Florida based Burger King expanded into the state in the 1960s, it led to a famous court case that ruled the local spot could keep the name within a 20 mile radius, while the national chain had to stay out. That ruling still stands today, which is why the nearest chain Burger King is about 25 miles away. It’s not just a meal here it’s a piece of American trademark history.

Awesome value with a nostalgic vibe. The “Family Pack” is hard to beat if you come with the whole crew: a pound of hot and crispy fries and 4 single (or double) cheeseburgers, cooked to perfection. Feels like the type of old-school place that wouldn’t take credit card, but they do! If you’re getting off I-57 for food, pass up the chains right off the highway and head a bit further west into town…you won’t regret it!
Did drive through, photos of dining room look like typical fast food joint. The burgers are very good, fries were good, onion rings overcooked.

This is an old timey diner that delivers on fast food. They have excellent fries, the burgers are delicious, and they have a non dairy ice cream options that are very tasty.
The only nitpick I have is that the burgers are tiny, but then I just order a triple and I'm satisfied.
