I tried this restaurant because the other Korean restaurant on the same road has gone downhill quality wise. I have been going since. Their price is just $1 or $2 higher than the other one but the food is much better quality and larger portion. You can tell they are very proud of their food. They make their own kimchi. They check on you frequently to make sure you are happy with the food. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Really good, classic Korean food with large portions and reasonable prices, located in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Hwang Dae Gham is located in a non-descript strip mall with some closed store fronts, so plenty of parking. My daughter and I were in town and needed to visit in the Northern suburbs, so afterwards decided to have lunch at a place that had meaning for us. Unfortunately, it was closed on Mondays so chose another Korean restaurant. Hwang Dae Gham ended up a great choice. We came soon after it opened, and it was already busy. It is a family owned business, and they obviously take great pride in their food and service. We had a chance to eat a lot of their non-BBQ offerings, and every one of them was excellent. Started with two appetizer portions: mul-mandu (small, bite-size steamed dumplings...supposed to be only pork but I swear I tasted seafood/fish in it...very good...reminded me of eating pelmini in it's size and density); the other was a small portion of japchae which we devoured...usually not a fan of this style of Korean mung-bean noodles, but really enjoyed it. We got two entrees (didn't share for once, so each got what we wanted). I got the squid bibim-bap (mixed rice in a stone bowl)...it's important to look at the pictures, cause it clearly explains the difference between the normal bibim-bap. They basically put a large portion of the squid-bokum, on top of rice...missing the normal cold greens. It was different, and I loved it. It was served with the requisite gochujang sauce, but you don't need it. It's already pre-seasoned. My daughter got the Gamja-Tang (spicy soup with potato and pork neck), and she really enjoyed it....like most Korean hot soups, great for a chilly February Chicago day. All of it comes with side dishes and purple rice. We especially liked the sweet glazed potatoes, picked cucumbers, and sliced mung bean pancake. Service was very warm and consistent throughout. It was just a beautiful opportunity to have a great meal and spend a lot of time with my adult daughter, reminiscing about the past and planning for the future. The entire Hwang Dae Gham environment was very conducive to that. I really wish I had two stomachs so I could sample the other dishes on the menu...all of it looked so good. We ended up bringing home most of the entrees, and it was delicious re-heated. Really inspires me to explore K-Town more when I get home.

Bad service, my family of 8 and I were seated in the far back with no button to notify them when we needed help. We had to flag them down and after we said one thing they immediately walked away, when we were still talking. We ordered appetizers and the main course got there before the most of the appetizers. They also didn’t give us rice or sauces until we were basically down eating. And all of that was worth over $390. This including a $60 tip.

Wanted to show my brother what Korean BBQ was all about, but didn't want to make the 45m drive to the place we knew. So I decided to give this place a try! When we walking in, we were immediately greeted with warm smiles and the comforting scent of delicious food. I was an airhead and did not think ahead to make a reservation, but the staff was very quick and accommodated the 3 of us at a table, where they provided us with a portable grill! :) the atmosphere is cozy, with cute decor. The food is AMAZING, everything we tried was mouth-watering and so full of flavor! And the service was beyond incredible, always making sure we were satisfied and had everything we needed. I was even given a hug by what I believe was one of the owners! I really needed a hug and she absolutely melted my heart! I would give more than 5 stars if I could! Absolutely will be going back many times, as well as recommending them to every one of my friends and family!

After trying few KBBQ places I can honestly say this is a little hidden gem. The owners are very nice friendly people that let us stay pass closing. Food is not the highest quality but very good, and side dishes has options or variety for everyone. Will be back. The only negative thing I could say is place little dated.

Let's freaking goooo, this place is awesome. Didn't expect to find such a gem in Mundelein. I haven't had a Korean restaurant like this in a looong time. Super value and super tasty food. The seafood pancake was nicely browned on the bottom to give a nice crisp exterior. The pancake was perfectly moist on the inside and didn't fall apart at all. We didn't get KBBQ today, but their other dishes are very solid. I got the Dduk mandu-guk. Very hearty soup with lots of rice cakes and dumplings. The soup got a little too concentrated for me to finish, but that's fine. The portion sizes are HUGE and I left feeling very full. For $13-16 a dish, that's a great deal on Korean food these days. Banchan were delicious. I liked the kimchi pancakes and the soy things. The service is SO good. Our servers were so friendly. Loved it.

This is my favorite go-to Korean place in town. Their food is authentic, they are generous with the side dishes, and the food taste amazing. My favorite is their gamja-tang, I highly recommend this place!
