I have enjoyed several private tastings hosted by Anna, one of the most innovative chefs I've ever encountered. Her creativity shines through at every course, each dish more surprising and delightful than the last. Every element—from the locally sourced ingredients to the artful plating—was intentional and thoughtful. The tasting journey, inspired by several cultures, moved from creative starters to satisfying main courses and ended with a beautifully presented dessert, the perfect final note to this symphony of tastes.
The communicative atmosphere Anna creates in her specially designed space in her home adds to the beautiful experience. She and her husband always greet us personally, help their guests connect over their love of food, and create an atmosphere that is both inviting and inspiring.
I’ve been to high-end restaurants and food events all over the world, but these private tasting sessions set a new standard. They are not just a dinner, but a lovingly created work of art. I have been to amlu tastings twice and enjoyed it so much each time! I have been to other tasting menus but this one has exceeded all expectations and has been better than Michelin star restaurants as far as I am concerned. Anna is truly an artist when it comes to decorating her food and the taste hits the right spot every single time without fail!! I would highly recommend for everyone to try her food as it’s truly a treat and will end up being one of your best meals you have ever had! Our menu was entirely different both times but the taste was so consistently amazing in both instances!! Don’t miss this opportunity! First time we went there were other tables occupied and second time it was a private event and was even more amazing as it was very intimate and Anna had more interaction with us which I enjoyed even more! I have attended other events where Anna had demos or served few dishes which was also a good experience, being trying the tasting menu is a must do experience!!!

I had a private dinner event with Amlu Tastings a few weeks ago. It was amazing. Anna was incredibly attentive to our preferences for what we wanted on the menu (while keeping it a surprise), what flavor profiles we enjoyed, our dietary preferences (we had a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarians), and what sort of vibe we wanted for the dinner.
This past year, I have had multiple Michelin star meals. In the high end Indian-based food arena, I have eaten at Indienne, and had the fixed tasting menus at Roop (formerly Rooh) and The Coach House. Those were all excellent, but Amlu Tastings was the best by a good margin. The six courses we had were all amazing. Whereas at Indienne I felt all the courses were at least good, and a few were incredible, and while at Roop I enjoyed the majority of courses with higher highs and lower lows than Indienne, while only a couple of the courses at Coach House stood out, the Amlu menu was consistently amazing at a very high level.
I won't divulge the exact contents of every course because having some surprises is a great part of the experience, but we opened with one of the most delicious soups I've ever had. The next course had shrimp with a unique mix of Asian flavors and a very inspired cheese choice. We followed with a delectable dumpling course with robust Asian flavors. While I wouldn't consider myself a seafood fan, the next course blew me away - a predominantly Asian-forward taste profile (predominantly Thai) with fish that was buttery soft in texture. This was followed by a Mexican-inspired Mahi Mahi, again paired with a sauce bursting with flavor and just the right amount of spice. If this was sold in stores, I would buy bottles of it for everything. The signature chicken at the end was delectable and absolutely one of the best Indian chicken dishes I've ever had. I have eaten at a half dozen Michelin starred Indian restaurants in London, eaten at multiple 5-star hotels in India, and this chicken could be placed side by side with any of them. The dessert course was a delicious remaining of a classic Indian sweet dish as a cake. My only disappointment was wanting more. She also prepared one of the best chocolate cakes I've ever eaten as a celebration for the birthday of one of the patrons.
The cost was in line with what you'd expect to pay at any of the above mentioned places. I thought it was worth every penny, and our party all felt the same way.
The vegetarian options were also loved by the vegetarian members of our party. The entire experience was amazing. It was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life, and I don't say that lightly: I take good food very seriously! Pair all of that with the fact that our dining experience was private, we were with a curated group of friends without the noisy distractions of other diners all around us, and the entire night was one that I think we will all cherish as a treasured memory and experience. I know I will.
I cannot wait to do another event like this. I will be returning with a new group of friends, and very likely repeating the dinner if the opportunity arises with the same group I came with. I would say in exploring the Chicago food scene for more than a decade, this is the best Indian food I've ever had in the Chicagoland area, but it's so much more than that. If you love food, do yourself a favor and get a group together for an Amlu Tasting. You won't regret it.
