The appetizers were excellent- Lobster bites. The entrees were ok. The Filet Mignon lacked seasoning that I'm used to. The Mediterranean Salmon was decent, but I requested it to be blackened. The atmosphere was fantastic. The music was great, and our server was very kind and attentive to us.

Best service I have seen in DuPage county. I love the location and how quiet this venue typically is. The staff is so good. The menu is deep and broad in comparison to other places for the same price point.

Great evening of food, jazz and conversation. Started off with a great glass of Pinot Noir; then a bowl of the soup du jour coconut lime cream soup; next the entree Amberjack fish perfectly prepared with herb spaetzle. To top the evening off we had a great server. Just ask for Genesis when dining here!

You go through an office building to get to this restaurant. In fact, a part of the office building has been retrofitted to create this restaurant inside. Nicely done. However, when you look at some parts on the ceiling, you are reminded that this is an office building.Overall, it’s a very good experience all around. Is it worth the cost? That’s debatable.Instead of bread, they serve pita bread pieces alongside vinegar sauce, oil infused with cheese and melt in your mouth garlic cloves - very tender. If you’re ok going for a non-alcoholic drink, I would recommend the Pineapple ginger.Buttermilk calamari recommended for appetizer. For the meal, we ordered ketchup today which was mahi-mahi. Surprisingly pretty spicy actually but very flavorful at the same time.We also had filet mignon which was juicy inside and crusted on the outside. All in all, this place is definitely worth a try one time.

Finally got to try this place - and I have to say, I haven’t had a great restaurant first visit experience like this in awhile!!!I went on a date here with my boyfriend and we wanted to go somewhere a little extra special. We have heard great things about CityGate from our friends who also live nearby. I have to say, I was a little skeptical walking up to the place seeing that it was inside of the Calamos Investment building, it just threw me off, but that said, we were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful and elegant the inside of the restaurant felt. It felt kind of exclusive. We came in a Friday night and we were treated to some live jazz. My boyfriend and I both said we felt like we were on vacation. Some couples got up and slow danced together which was sweet and fun to watch. But I have to say, my favorite thing about this place is the warm pita bread with roasted garlic cloves, olive oil, and fresh parmesan cheese - it was absolutely delicious and a pleasant/unique twist to being served fresh bread and butter at the beginning of a meal. I recreated this at home a couple of times. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive and the wine selection was excellent. Our steak was a 10/10.We have returned multiple times since our first experience and each time is truly a treat!

Being a local premium steakhouse, CityGate provides a good dinning option for business setting and private occasion. Recent late night celebration dinner for our sporting event was good experience where the service is friendly, live music and decent menu options provided. while flounder can be more tender, the steak meat cooked just right, though the burger I wish they offered the cut, so it is easy for kids to manage.

This place is fantastic! We've been there more than once and each time it does not disappoint. The food, drinks, atmosphere, and service are all great! Definitely worth checking out!

Unfortunately disappointed in this restaurant, although it has a nice atmosphere. Ordered the filet mignon ala Oscar style and steamed broccoli, meal was lukewarm nearly cold. When brought to the servers attention, he apologized mentioned they only had 2 runners on a Sat night and took my plate away. Mgr approached our table with apologies too and returned within minutes with the same steak which was reheated or seared to the point it now had a crunchy crust., btw Oscar sauce was still cold on the reseated steak. I'm was hoping for a beautiful dinner and unfortunately highly disappointed in how they handled this situation. We had to complain further with the mgr to which he agreed to compensate the meal entree. Not sure I'll return, there are lots of better steak house options with exceptional service

This is a great looking venue. It provides live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. The music is generally jazz or popular played at a level which will not interfere with your dining experience. There is a small dance floor which allows for some limited dancing. It really isn't the place to go for dancing but, it is not discouraged. The food is outstanding as is the service.

Me and my Husband visited on 2-17-24 they were highlighting a local jazz musician Harold Dawson. The first drawback no valet parking and the save adjacent to the restaurant had about 20 spaces so we had to park in the parking garage which wasn't to far but if you have on a cute heel or bad weather. Once inside the restaurant was beautiful once seated away from where we requested to be seated where we could see the musician . The noise level was overbearing from the other guest. The service staff was informative and attentive . Now to the food I ordered the Basil salmon with whipped potatoes and garlic spinach. My husband ordered the chicken with whipped potatoes. The food was okay my spinach was too salty. Oh I forgot the underwhelming crab cake appetizer and the pita bread with oil and garlic which didn't match the restaurant menu at all where was the warm bread I was confused by this one for sure. The drinks were good I ordered the city gate rum punch and my husband ordered the Oishi old fashion which he said smelled fragrant but didn't have any taste. We wanted dessert but the waiter gave us the honest opinion that the cake was dry and the other options weren't too our liking. Let me not forget the bathroom isn't located in the restaurant which was shocking to walk down a flight of stairs by the emergency exit. Oh and coat check misplaced my husband coat took them 5 minutes to locate. Overall I'd return if there's music and I could get my requested seat.
