Started coming to this place about 50 years ago, My parents would come from the city to visit my grandparents who lived in Norridge. And I remember walking there to get Cakes and bread with my grandma.
Now I drive in a couple times a year from Algonquin to get the donuts and on Thursday is the upside down pineapple cake.
I actually waited in line Christmas Eve for about 40 minutes to pick up items for Christmas.

I highly recommend this bakery, the cannolis and all the other pastries are amazing.

I had a few bad experiences and won’t go back to Allegretti’s any more. I bought holiday cookies and I tasted one and it was stale. They would not replace them and I brought them back the next day with one cookie missing. The manager was not kind about it and asked me what cookie I ate and said she tasted one and it was fine. She would not replace them. I will not be able to use these cookies. This is the way you lose customers. I had two other times where I was rushed and their staff was it nice. I post this so they consider reviewing how they handle customers.

Normally we love this place. But recently not happy with a cake we got. Rating reflecting this purchase. NO ONE at the party thought it was chocolate. It was light brown and very light chocolate at best. Went back to tell the bakery and they insisted this is how it’s supposed to be this way since it’s “devils food cake”. I’m under the impression that devils food cake is very chocolatey and rich …. so I’m confused.

Lucky enough, this bakery was open until 6 PM on a Friday. It made it possible to come get my husband a treat for our anniversary on my way home from work. Their cannolis were absolutely delicious. Also, I ordered cream horn, Halloween themed cake pops, and a slice of tiramisu cake. Everything was amazing and will definitely come back for more!

I called ahead and when I asked did they have an apple cider donut they told me yes. When I arrived they added the additional detail that it was glazed which I don’t care for. I was looking for a simple apple cider donut with perhaps a sugar and cinnamon dusting. They did not have that. But I ordered a few and I also ordered a chocolate “crack” cake donut I saw an article online about , and a also few peanut butter cookies. The donuts were fresh. The cookies were dry. The apple cider glazed wasn’t enough apple flavor for me and the peanut butter cookie also didn’t taste like peanut butter. Not to me anyways your mileage may vary. The cookie was also very dry and crumbly. The chocolate “crack” donut - I’m not sure why it gets that name. It’s just a chocolate donut. It’s okay. But I probably wouldn’t come back. I will continue to search for an apple donut. For 6 donuts and 4 cookies I spent $14 if that helps. Staff was nice. It was very busy. I would perhaps go back and get fresh bread if I were in the area.
