5 + years ago this place was amazing! Unfortunately over the years the food got worse, the Mai Tai’s aren’t the same and the service not as friendly. We used to celebrate every family birthday there, now we got to Tsukasa!

Ron of Japan in Northbrook used to be the spot back in the ‘90s — it had great energy, flavorful food, and an experience worth every penny. Fast forward to today and it’s unrecognizable. The quality has fallen off a cliff.
The food is completely tasteless — bland, overcooked, and uninspired. You’d think a teppanyaki spot would at least season their proteins properly, but apparently that’s too much to ask. The service? Horrendous. Our server seemed bothered to even be there, drinks took forever, and we had to practically beg for basic things like refills or utensils. Zero attentiveness, zero hospitality.
To top it off, the prices are outrageous for what you get — tiny portions that leave you hungry and wondering why you just paid fine-dining prices for sub-par food court quality. Whatever magic this place once had is long gone. Save your money and your time — this is a shell of what it used to be. Total disappointment

Used to think Ron was better than Benihana now it’s not whatsoever
Cheap greasy food that is beyond overpriced
Way overly inflated drink prices that are under poured
Horrible service
Place is beyond dirty and ventilation is out of control.
@healthdepartment please do a visit here. They should get an F. Place is filthy and would not recommend bringing friends or family here. Will never step foot in this money grab greasy food place. Never again, I don’t care who’s birthday it is.

I've been coming to your restaurant for over 40 years and I have never had lobster is horrible as this my girlfriend and I both had it. My husband just passed away and I thought I would treat myself. I couldn't chew it and I couldn't cut it and the waitress kept asking me if I wanted to take it home and I kept saying That stuff I spit out and my girlfriend felt the exact same way. I should've just stuck with the safe choice of chicken, but I wanted the lobster cause it is the best in the world. Normally, I was very, very disappointed.
Chef was bored, portions were adequate but not generous, and there was one waitress working the entire room - which meant empty water glasses and having to ask multiple times for a silverware roll.
Always a great place with equally great food to celebrate special occasions. Does not disappoint.
Food is always excellent, the server was awesome and the cook was great. Took my kids there for their birthday and they had a wonderful time. Thank you
We were late and they still got our party of 7 in right away. It was excellent food and a great time.
Unfortunately, it has gone very downhill over the years and now they've just raise the prices and change the menu altogether. Part of the charm was the fan menu and now that's gone as well. They keep on changing everything that made it Ron of Japan. It was a sad.
A great meal. Pricey but well worth it.

I feel that the decorations at ROJ now are very cheap and stupidly done -The bathrooms are horrifically disgusting. It's not the same anymore. I can't believe ownership doesn't take pride on having a cleaning crew come in or even the older maître D I don't know family member host, he just stands there and has nobody checked the bathrooms and if I told you how vile and disgusting ROJ is after all these years, the prior owner would've never had a unkept filthy place like it is now-or EVER
Food is great (but a lot, maybe share a plate...) downside is you have to take a bath when you're back home.

Excellent food. My wife and I have been going here for 36 years and it's barely changed in that time. It's always great!
