Steak was over cooked when medium rare was ordered Chef was nasty when pointed this out and walked away.
My experience at this place was awful from beginning to end. The staff made me feel rushed the entire time, as if they just wanted to turn the table instead of giving any real service. There was no friendliness, no patience, and absolutely no professionalism. The whole atmosphere felt uncomfortable because of how rude the employees were. The food was just as disappointing—poor quality, bland, and definitely not worth the price they charge. For what they make you pay, you would expect at least decent service or a pleasant dining experience, but this place failed on every level. To make things even worse, when the bill came, they told me the minimum tip was 18%. For service that was this bad, that policy is ridiculous. Tips are supposed to reflect the service you receive, and forcing a high minimum after providing terrible service feels dishonest and disrespectful. Overall, this restaurant is extremely overpriced, with rude staff, bad food, and an attitude that shows they don't value their customers at all. I would never come back and definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
My friend recommended this place and I decided to take my spouse for his birthday. Upon entering the scenery is beautiful! The host greeted us promptly. The server was very kind. The cook was very friendly. When it comes to the flavor of the food, the vegetables were bland, no flavor whatsoever. The scallop also was not flavorful and I needed to use the egg sauce to substitute the flavor. The lobster had the sauce which made it tasteful. The steak had absolutely no spices. It was bland. I did have to use salt for the steak and vegetables. The rice was ok. The flavor was different. I will be contacting the restaurant to discuss my experience. I spent $200+
Ron of Japan 9or as we called it ROJ) has been our go-to restaurant since the 80's. The food is always great, however their prices have gone through the roof! Bean sprouts were a main part of the vegetable that were served and now ROJ decided to charge "extra" for an order of them. Seven dollars per order is a little much, considering the portion size has been reduced. Our chef, Allendro, was excellent. He cooks for us often and we have found him to be the one chef that truly does an excellent job. One other issue. I made a 4:30 reservation and called to, ask if we could change it to 5:30. I was told an adamant NO as they were too busy as 5:00 pm to accommodate us. We managed to arrive at 4:30, sat down and proceeded to witness an empty restaurant even as the time came upon 5:30. Terrible customer service from the front desk. as per usual. The gentleman there is not friendly and never has been. We chalk it up to apart of the experience of ROJ! If you, want to spend $400 for dinner for 4 people then head on over to ROJ!
This place has gone way down hill and I've been coming here since the 1980's. Service was terrible and inpersonable, the chef acted like we were bothering him and the waitress seemed angry to be there. Food was garbage and full of salt and butter. The fried rice had hamburger meat and onions in it. I also didn't realize I was shopping at Walmart at 2am with the way people were dressed. Sweatpants, hoodies and kids running around. I actually became ill that night from the poor quality food but of course the price has gone up. Sometimes it's just time to pack it up, call it a good run and move on.
Food and service were excellent. Only complaint was that there were 8 of us and we were fitted tightly into a booth, with very little space between us!
Tonight we had filet the 16oz NY strip both crown meals. Loved them both. I can't ever say anything bad about the chef we had. He was amazing! Gerald is hands down the most talkative and excellent cook. His food always tastes great and he never gets annoyed if you have requests.
I've been going to Ron of Japan for almost 20 years. The food is always great, however it's a toss up on the chef, whether they're good or not, and these days they're cramming up to 9 people at a table. You have very little space to move or eat your food now because they want to make more money. Really disappointing.
Always good but gotten more expensive, prices are definitely up. Cost $300 for 4 people with tax & tip. Nephew's birthday celebration.
Had family in from out of town and ate at Ron of Japan for the first time and said the next time they visit they would like to come back as the very first restaurant they eat at. Excellent all the way around. Thanks to everyone who helped make this so wonderful.

We live on the south side of Chicago, but have been going up there for at least 30 years. Well worth it and always delicious.
5 + years ago this place was amazing! Unfortunately over the years the food got worse, the Mai Tai’s aren’t the same and the service not as friendly. We used to celebrate every family birthday there, now we got to Tsukasa!

Ron of Japan in Northbrook used to be the spot back in the ‘90s — it had great energy, flavorful food, and an experience worth every penny. Fast forward to today and it’s unrecognizable. The quality has fallen off a cliff.
The food is completely tasteless — bland, overcooked, and uninspired. You’d think a teppanyaki spot would at least season their proteins properly, but apparently that’s too much to ask. The service? Horrendous. Our server seemed bothered to even be there, drinks took forever, and we had to practically beg for basic things like refills or utensils. Zero attentiveness, zero hospitality.
To top it off, the prices are outrageous for what you get — tiny portions that leave you hungry and wondering why you just paid fine-dining prices for sub-par food court quality. Whatever magic this place once had is long gone. Save your money and your time — this is a shell of what it used to be. Total disappointment

I've been coming to your restaurant for over 40 years and I have never had lobster is horrible as this my girlfriend and I both had it. My husband just passed away and I thought I would treat myself. I couldn't chew it and I couldn't cut it and the waitress kept asking me if I wanted to take it home and I kept saying That stuff I spit out and my girlfriend felt the exact same way. I should've just stuck with the safe choice of chicken, but I wanted the lobster cause it is the best in the world. Normally, I was very, very disappointed.
