Spilt Milk is a staple of Oak Park bakeries/coffee shops. It has the best pies in the area. I also love their take and bake options, as well as their gift shop items. Some items seem to be underseasoned (especially undersalted). I also recommend not ordering cappuccinos here, as the baristas make them as a latte (I've tested this more than once just to make sure it wasn't a one-off issue). Otherwise, I'd recommend for pies - both savory and sweet - as well as pre-made dinners, meals, and sides in the fridge. I especially love the beet sandwich.

Good coffee and fun deserts.
3 times I have ordered a pie online only to get to the shop for them to tell me they sold it to someone in line. 4 times I was physically in line looking at a pie in the display case only to be told it was already sold online. Staff was rude to me and offered no form of compensation for driving an hr out of my way to pick up a pie that never existed. I was one their first customers 10 years ago. Beyond disappointed in the establishment as the owner told me they aren't worried about my concerns as they pump out $4k+/ day orders. I too am a small business owner and did not expect that response. My family, especially my daughter went without a pie for her first thanksgiving.

I haven't tried any of their lovely desserts yet but we've gotten coffee and hot chocolate here a few times and it's always delicious! The staff is already very friendly and outgoing and other customers we've chatted with have been equally as kind!

First of all, the smell when you walk in transports you to memories I don't even have of sleepovers at grandmas with her famous chocolate chip cookies backing, back when we all had hope and dreamt of becoming cowboy astronauts.
The had the biggest, flakest croissants I have ever seen.
And then the cookies- I didn't have the money for one despite them being fairly prices and like half what crumbl or insomniac charges.
This bakery is the nightmare that causes crumbl to wake in cold sweats.
They also have quiches and savory pies! Which I wouldn't eat bc of the meat, but made me want to because of reading discworld books.
They also have take and bake stuff and die holiday take out
But on top of that, I had gone in bc it said there was a food pantry next door and it has closed a year ago. But they gave me the most delicious banana bread I have ever had.

This is a great place to grab some baked goods and a coffee! We live just a couple blocks from here and always love seeing the staff baking in the windows. We love their quiche, breakfast sandwich and scones. They make a great lavender latte as well! We've also picked up a pumpkin pie for a family party and it had great reviews! We love supporting this small business and will continue to do so!

Best croissants in Oak Park! Excellent coffee, friendly service, seating makes you feel like you are in Grandma’s kitchen (which would be one of the most comforting places ever), delicious treats.

Of the really excellent bakeries in walking distance of downtown Oak Park, Spilt Milk is my absolute favorite. Pastries are always delicious, obviously, but what's rare about Spilt Milk is that you can taste the quality of the ingredients, expertise, and training. I swear to god if they ever take the coffee and cream shortbread off the menu a part of my soul will die. I wish they had a little more room to sit, but that's the fault of the location rather than the bakery itself, and honestly the products they have on the shelves are so insanely high-quality I'm grateful to have them available locally. I don't drink but I've bought the wines for gifts and gotten rave reviews, plus Spilt Milk sells Ghia which might as well be ambrosia for me. Anyway, go to this bakery, you won't regret it.
Parking: The diagonal spots across from the bakery are usually open. I probably shouldn't say this but despite being paid spots you can usually get away with just running in if you're taking your food to go.

I stopped for a quick bit of food cause I was doing inspections in the area and was not disappointed. The sandwich was difficult to eat at first cause my mouth wasn’t big enough. This biscuit was huge, most likely cause it was fresh. The biscuit was on point and I’ve never had eggs so fluffy either! I also got a peanut butter cookie. So good!! Would recommend. Coffee was coffee, it’s a bakery though so …
