This place is not a place for Mexican food we read on the reviews. The Mexican food was good. The Mexican food actually tasted like canned beans and the bag of white rice. The atmosphere was not of Mexican descent.

My fiancé and I recently visited S2 Express Grill in Orland Park and had a mixed experience. While I appreciated the convenience of the reservation option (a nice touch for a casual soul food spot), the rest of the visit left me underwhelmed.
The menu didn’t offer anything that stood out compared to other soul food establishments. It felt pretty standard, and for the price point, I expected something a bit more unique or elevated.
Upon arrival, I was surprised to find the seating consisted of tall bar-style tables that seat six—not ideal for intimate dining or smaller parties, especially if you’re expecting something more comfortable.
I also noted during the reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary, since the system allows you to select a special occasion. Unfortunately, this was never acknowledged by staff. We ended up having to purchase our own slice of cake to mark the moment. If you’re going to ask about special occasions, it should be followed up with at least a small gesture or mention—it just felt overlooked.
The presentation of the food was good and matched the photos online, which was a nice touch. However, the taste didn’t live up to the look. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t memorable either—nothing that made me want to rave about flavor or seasoning like you would with a truly flavorful soul food meal. Wait time was average, not fast but not frustratingly slow.
I was also disappointed to receive plastic utensils instead of silverware. While I understand the sanitation concerns, it felt cheap for the prices being charged. Condiments were served in packets, which further contributed to a fast-casual feel rather than a sit-down dining experience.
On top of that, there was a mandatory 15% gratuity, a 3% service charge, and an additional card fee, all applied before tax. These extra charges add up quickly, and the overall price didn’t reflect the quality of the product.
The ambiance was decent, with plastic greenery on the walls giving it an Instagram-friendly look. The music was okay—R&B like Mario and Trey Songz vibes, but something like instrumental jazz or lofi beats might better match the atmosphere they seem to be aiming for.
All in all, I left full but not satisfied. The experience didn’t feel worth the price, and while it wasn’t terrible, it’s not somewhere I’d be in a rush to return to.

I have no real complaints except that gratuity is a mandatory 18% if dining in. The food was hot and delicious. Service was great. Restaurant was clean. Bathroom was clean and smelled good. I will be returning, but getting the food to go. I highly recommend.

This Place was a ghost town when I walked in. The sever came out after 10 min and then told us we had to order at the counter but she would bring it out. Drinks never came out until I went back to the counter. Food came out the catfish was good, but the sides were horrible which were mash and corn. The corn definitely came out of a can and the garlic bread tasted like yesterday’s bread. I will never return. They also are over priced. Catfish dinner and a drink came out to to 48 bucks.
Food was great ! I had the Salmon bites, macaroni, and the chicken alfredo. Everything was delicious. Our host myleah was amazing and very friendly as well. Great dining experience overall
