Soul Food Restaurants near Park Forest, IL

“I can’t believe this place has been open all of this time and it’s my first time trying them out. Needless to say, it will NOT be the last. It’s extremely hard to find good soul food in the burbs, and I’m happy that I finally gave them a try. I had the individual meal, which comes with one meat & 2 sides and a cornbread muffin. I chose the fried wings (came with 4) and greens and Mac & cheese. Everything was delicious!! The wings were perfectly golden brown and fried just right. Crispy but still moist and delicious — not overly seasoned either, just right! (No feathers!! I can trust whoever is in that kitchen!) The sides were also good!! I asked for an additional side of yams to try but I wasn’t charged for that so I’ll just have to speak louder for that next time lol. You can tell there are a mix of cheeses used in the Mac (especially if you’re a cook yourself) and they work together in all of the best ways. Sometimes people make greens too acidic or too vinegar-ish… but not here! When I say everything was perfect, I mean it. There was a small wait (maybe 10 min) but it was hot and fresh, so I’ll take that any time. The cornbread muffins were delicious and moist.. not TOO sweet either. Lastly, the service — very pleasant all around. I went through the drive thru and was still greeted / treated with a smile. I LOVE that a soul food restaurant finally offers a drive thru!! Thank you for this lol — especially because parking is kind of limited with all of the other businesses right in that strip. I will have to try the fish and meatloaf next time, as well as maybe the cake! Overall 10/10 and I will go again.“

“A group of us traveled from out of town to this establishment and we were excited about trying the food. We heard great things about the food, but we were thrown off by the person taking our orders. The gentleman was very snarky in his demeanor. There is another saying I would like to use, but for this review, I will refrain from that language. Although there was a group of us, the gentleman immediately interrupted one of my friends as she was about to place her order. In his sassiness, he made a comment to the fact of “I don’t need a bunch of phone numbers and one payment is acceptable.” We were confused by his statement! The gentleman was under the assumption that since we all came together, our order was one big order. One of our friends had to tell him, “just because we walked in together, don’t assume it’s one order!” My friend further explained that everyone would be placing their own separate order. The gentleman’s initial attitude had us all saying that we would not return. Another friend inquired about desserts and his response was something to the fact “we make enough money on the food!” Well, okay, sir!

Lastly, we all agreed the food was good! Customer service could’ve been better. In addition, if you’re charging me for cornbread, include it in my order. I should not have to check my order. Get it right the first time with all the attitude we received! Please get signage so that people know if they’re supporting the correct business!“

“We have been passing this place for like 7 plus years and just thought it was a coffee shop but today we decided to stop in and OMG I had the fish and he had the fish sandwich the best good and hot fresh and made to order and the employees were very nice and friendly the prices were right....“

“Absolutely the best food and customer service on the south suburbs. I had a party of 11. We sat down at a table immediately, the waitress took our drink order and then food order. Everything came out the kitchen fresh and hot. The food smelled delicious and looked delicious. me and my friends did the happy 😊 dance all afternoon. 5 out of 5 🌟“

“Omg, this food was AMAZING! I’ll admit, I was a little nervous walking in because the lobby wasn’t very appealing—but don’t let that fool you. I got the 2-meat, 2-sides dinner, and wow! The meatloaf was tender and flavorful with rich brown gravy. The chicken thigh was juicy, and the chicken gravy was perfectly seasoned.
Now, that dressing—tasted like homemade stuffing, but I like stuffing if it’s cooked right and it was cooked perfectly! The sweet potatoes had just the right amount of sweetness. Honestly, this place has quickly made it to the top of my list of favorite spots to try again .

“I’ve had the opportunity to eat at this place and it did not disappoint. The place was spotless the food was on point perfectly cooked and seasoned. The customer service is on another level. I was unsure on what to order and the young man up front helped me decide my entire order. The food was perfectly priced and came out within a reasonable time. She handled about 8-10 customers taking orders, cooking food, chopping up rib tips, slicing cake, grilling fish, boxing food...plus more! I was so impressed! She was AMAZING!
