Just had an amazing lunch at Thalaiva’s! The thali was delicious, packed with flavors, and the variety was perfect. The restaurant’s interior is beautiful. Everything was excellent, from the warm service to the artistic décor. Highly recommend! 🍽️✨
If you're running a restaurant please find some polite as you're receptionist, the lady who work as receptionist is definitely not polite.

Long Wait, Lukewarm Experience
We recently ventured to Thalaiva's for a taste of Tamil Cuisine, and were immediately met with a bustling, almost overflowing dining room. A 15-20 minute wait, while understandable for a popular spot, set the tone for a drawn-out evening.
Unfortunately, the food, (Kothuparotta, Pepper Chicken) when it finally arrived after a 30+ minute wait, was decidedly average. The flavors were underwhelming, and the dishes lacked the vibrancy we were hoping for.
While the staff were undeniably warm and nice, the service was frustratingly slow. The extended wait for our food was compounded by a bizarre situation with the restaurant's temperature. On a windy Chicago evening, with the doors wide open, we were left uncomfortably cool. When we asked if they could close them, we were told the restaurant was getting stuffy and offered a table change instead. The explanation that they were trying to cool the restaurant, rather than turning on the AC, was perplexing.
The long wait times, coupled with the average food and the odd temperature control issues, made for a disappointing experience. While the staff's friendliness was a plus, it wasn't enough to compensate for the overall shortcomings.

The food is good, but the menu is just too vast for the kitchen to do justice to all the dishes. The South Indian stuff is good, so I will stick with that if I were going. Good South Indian Style Coffee served in Stainless Steel Tumblers! The South Indian Kurma is well done.
ETA: Looks like the Restaurant has consolidated the menu and now has special dishes from Kongunaadu. Also they've moved to Prospect Ave side. We tried the vegetarian dishes like the Eggplant and the Greengram, along with the usual Aloo Gobi and Bhindi Masala. They're all uniformly tasty and unique in that they have a South Indian bent to them. What was already a good restaurant is now fantastic. A little bit expensive but well worth the money.

By far the worst customer service I've ever seen in a Tamil Nadu style restaurant in the US.
Food is really exceptional, authentic taste but the quantity of the sides is soo less and when asked for another one, they provided it but didn't mention it was on additional cost and added it to the bill.
Even the behavior of the waiters weren't really good, need training.

We were a party of 5 adults and 2 kids, on a Friday night at 8pm. We had to wait for 10mins to get a table. The food was good and so was the atmosphere, it had a authentic Indian restaurant vibe. It is the service that was really disappointing.
Once we were seated and helped ourselves to water it was at least 10mins later when someone came and checked on us. We placed the order and the food came in a staggering manner with an average of 10-15 mins between order being served. So, the person who received the food first had to wait at least 20mins before he could start eating and have company. His food started to get cold. The last order was delivered around 9:45 and we had to cancel one order as it never arrived.
I recognize that the restaurant was busy, but that is not a reason for poor service.

Biryani lovers don't go here . Hyderabad dum and Thalivas spcl biryani are the worst . Rice was very dry and masala also doesn't blend with rice . Who put dry red chilli in the biryani. But we tried Kongunadhu chicken curry , it was good.

Restaurantji Recommends
Been here before, food quality and the service quality has gone down. Mostly on the pricier side. Meals is a good value for money.

STAY AWAY
Have no idea how this place has 5stars. I’d give 0 stars for the Food. I’m a South Indian and worst experience. Food is all pre made and re heated except the dosas. Chilly chicken was rubbery. Place is congested. Not worth the money. Kothu parrotta has to be made fresh but by seeing itself you can say. One good thing, the service was good.

Delicious south India dishes, I highly recommend! Had our team appreciation dinner here and the food did not disappoint! Great service as well; friendly and attentive 😀
Worst customer service they delay by 40/50 minutes to deliver the food. Worst cheap staff. I had suffered a lot. Arrogant staff.
