I've eaten here multiple times and the pot roast has got to be some of the best pot roast around!
I usually order the jerk nachos or baked chicken when those specials are available. Service has been great both times with a family environment which def put the home cooked feeling into play.! I try my best to make it down there at least one a week for Sunday dinners!

I ate here twice. The first time was not the best then I tried to call an order in next time. They said all they were doing was pasta and to call back Thursday when II ate here twice. Then I waited two weeks and my friend persuading me to go back. I went back in this time. The food was worse watered Water down spaghetti, dry chicken, and the Mac & cheese still had cheese chunks in it like it wasn’t all the way cooked, but the service was the best part. I love the guy behind the counter good vibes, but the food was trash.

Carryout only, which should be dine in. Good portions not to much but filling. Should be a full reasturant. Support this small business. Shaun is dedicated to good food, served hot and a quality product. I enjoyed not only the food but the conversation. Pot roast to die for.

I’m from Springfield I literally stop EVERY TIME I’m sad today because they are closed. I literally have told everyone about them. I spend over $100 every time because I have to a now and later plate. My children love it as well. The greens are hands down my favorite but every I have tried is good from the meats to the side to the desserts. There caramel cake is real 😌🤤🥰.

No one competes with Chef Shaun! We went here for the first time today and we loved every piece of food we had! We are already planning on going back! This is a GEM in Peoria! Do not miss your chance to eat the best souls food around!

Was here on business from Joliet, IL. Decided to give a try, food is amazing give them a try it is worth it. Had the potroast dinner. Again amazing Black owned restaurant. Very nice peoole as well.

1st thing 1st...you can't beat CUSTOMER SERVICE with a SMILE! The counter lady was very welcoming & the cook Shaun smiled at every customer when handing off the food! I had the pot roast , sweet potatoes, greens, deviled eggs, mac n cheese & fish & all i can say is Lawd have mercy! I was also able to shop for t shirts, hats & bracelets! Finally BOB done right! I'll definitely be back!

OMG!!! I finally stopped in here after passing it up so many times everyday.. Let me just say.. I will never pass it up again after eating there.. The greens and sweet potatoes are to die for. 😋😋 please don't sleep on Chef Shaun he the Goat for real..So stop in and grab a plate or two..👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

The Best Pot Roast and Mac & Cheese I’ve Ever Had — Period.

Shaun Chef Soul Food is the definition of comfort on a plate. I’ve eaten soul food all over the country, and I can say without hesitation that this place is serving up some of the best I’ve ever had — especially the pot roast and mac and cheese.

The pot roast was absolutely perfect — melt-in-your-mouth tender, slow-cooked with care, and seasoned so deeply it tasted like a Sunday dinner made by someone’s grandma who really knows what she’s doing. Rich, savory, and soul-soothing.

And the mac and cheese? Unreal. Creamy, cheesy, with just the right amount of baked crust on top. It didn’t taste like a side — it was a whole event. If you love real-deal mac and cheese, this is the gold standard.

The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere felt warm and authentic. You can tell a lot of pride and love goes into every dish coming out of that kitchen.

If you’re in or anywhere near Peoria, Shaun Chef Soul Food needs to be at the top of your list. Trust me — you haven’t had pot roast or mac and cheese like this.

Had a friend tell me about this place ,and I gotta say it did not disappoint. In fact it exceeded my expectations. The food was fresh hot and full of flavor! .catfish was unbelievably good. Hands down the BEST SOUL FOOD IN TOWN!! .. If you ain't been here before your missing out. Talented in the kitchen is an understatement 👌

We had an absolutely excellent experience at Shaun Chef Soul Food. From start to finish, everything was delicious and clearly made with care. We ordered the wings and the catfish, and both were cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, tender inside, and not greasy at all (which is rare!).

For sides, we tried the collard greens, mac and cheese, and corn. Every single one was fantastic. The collard greens were flavorful and well-seasoned, and the corn was sweet and fresh. But the real standout? The mac and cheese. Usually, restaurant mac and cheese is bland or dry—not here. It was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Truly some of the best we’ve had.

Keep in mind that this is essentially a takeout spot, and everything is cooked to order. So yes, you may wait a little while—but it’s 100% worth it. The freshness and quality speak for themselves.

We highly recommend giving Shaun Chef Soul Food a try. You won’t be disappointed!
