Fresh always. Fair price.
Fantastic presentation.... outstanding selection of seafood and condiments...very polite and knowledgeable staff willing to assist with your experience. Maddie and Justin made the whole shopping experience memorable and above all amazing. The seafood selections were very fresh and when prepared clean tasting and quite flavorful. Some of the best seafood I've had since leaving South America.
They sell alligator meat
I had gotten a postcard advertisment from Dixons for Valentines Dinner- fillet minon, lobster tail, shrimp cocktail, and twice baked potatoe. My husband is in hospital and so I thought this would be the best Valentines present I could give him having been there for 20days eating hospital food. So I placed my order for 2 dinners. Never eaten there or bought fish from them before. All reviews I saw said excellant place for seafood. Picked up my order on Wed. afternoon. Very clean, not a fishy smelling place, young man behind counter poleit and friendly, also gave me a sheet on cooking instructions. Thursday morning got up early to prepare. Instructions easy to follow. Took me about 45 minutes from starting til I had packed it all up to take to hospital.
Just so happened that husbands breakfast was delieved as I was coming down hall to his room. He wasnt expecting me so early. I promately cleared his breakfast tray and set Dixons Valentines Dinner upon plates. Boy oh boy was he surprized.
The baked potatoe was very tastey just the right amount of cheese. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and the sauce not to spicy. The lobster tail was easy to pull out of shell (I should have used more butter though) ,flaky not dry, tasted like lobster. The filet minon was Delicious, very tender not stringy easy to chew( 2 old people with no teeth)excellant flavor.
My husband ate All of it. And loved it. I loved it also. I highly recommend Dixons. Hope they do this special again next year.
35.00 a plate- well worth every bite. Thank you Dixons for sending out those postcards.
Options were great and staff was knowledgeable about the seafood selection
While not as good or with as much variety or knowledgeable staff as the East Peoria location, still has the best seafood available in the area. Don’t hesitate to buy here if more convenient for you than East Peoria.
Thanks, so much. Your stuffed mushrooms were great, I broiled my catfish, sooo good.
The location in East Peoria has horrible customer service. I and my husband walked in their store. there were two ladies at the counter and they did not speak to us. no greeting anything to other women who were not our color walked in. they spoke Hi how are you and we got nothing to me. that's poor customer service , we won't shop at that location. the other one in Peoria we have never had a problem with. at the time we were the only ones in there . merely an observation
Dixon’s Seafood Shoppe has the best seafood in the area! You must try their stuffed salmon, it comes in its own one-use pan with baking instructions included! The jumbo shrimp are amazing (no cocktail sauce needed) and the twice baked potatoes and stuffed mushrooms are perfect as sides. They also carry many types of fish and if you don’t know how to prepare it, just ask and they will offer cooking suggestions!
I'AM A 72 YR. OLD MAN AND THIS IS A FIRST. I CALLED DIXON'S ON UNIVERSITY ST. IN PEORIA, IL. I DID MY ORDER OVER THE PHONE. MY ORDER PRICE WAS $122.98. NEVER ORDER CLOSE TO CLOSING TIME. MY PICKLED SHRIMP WAS LIKE TRYING TO CHEW HARD RUBBER. I WAS ALSO ORDERING REG. CRAB STICKS. HE SAID THAT THE SNOW CRAB IS SWEETER. WELL, THE PIECES WERE MORE LIKE SHREDDED AND SOGGY AS IF THE SNOW CRAB HAD BEEN SOAKING IN WATER. I DON'T MIND PAYING THOSE VERY EXPENSIVE PRICES, BUT THE QUALITY MUST BE ON POINT ALL OF THE TIME. IF IT WASN'T FOR MY DISABILITY I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE FOOD BACK TO THE STORE. DIXON'S IN EAST PEORIA IS THE GREATEST. ALL OF THE YEARS THAT I WENT THERE, I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE QUALITY OF MY PURCHASES. BOYCOTT UNIVERSITY ST. AND STICK WITH DIXON'S IN EAST PEORIA, IL. I HAVEN'T TRIED MY LOUISIANA GUMBO YET. I HOPE THERE IS NO QUALITY ISSUES. NOW I JUST FINISHED TRYING THE NEW LOUISIANA GUMBO. GREAT FLAVOR, BUT OUT OF 2 ORDER'S AT $11.98 EACH, THERE WAS ONLY 1 PIECE OF SHRIMP. SHOP HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK OR IF YOU HAVE MONEY TO BURN. THE MANAGER OR WHOEVER TOOK MY ORDER OVER THE PHONE, HE SHOULD BE TERMINATED. HE PURPOSELY SOLD ME EVERYTHING THAT HAD BEEN IN THEIR COOLER'S SINCE OPENINGTIME OR FOR A FEW DAY'S.

Great place
The stuffed mushrooms need seasoning. All else I have had, has been great!.
Great seafood pasta salad.
Friendly and good service.
Dixons had been fishing the Illinois river since the 1800s. And then selling the fish and clams for many years. They subsequently morphed into selling fish from around the world. They have very special high end fish connects and get the very best fish, often mailed the same day to maintain freshness. I am a fish lover and during my late teens and early twenties worked at a sport fishing dock and restaurant on Long Island NY. I can honestly say that the fish I ate in NY was no better than what I can get across the Illinois river at Oyster Bar/ Jonah's in East Peoria. The service, food quality and atmosphere are all excellent. I can highly recommend this restaurant.
