Chew Chew is one of our favorite places to have a cocktail and eat and just enjoy the end of a day. The drinks are always spot on and perfect Food and ambience are great.

We recently dined at The Chew Chew while visiting Chicago. Our server was absolutely wonderful—friendly, attentive, and very accommodating with dietary restrictions. The food was excellent and beautifully presented, truly one of the better meals we had during our trip.
Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by how rushed we felt throughout dinner. The bus person was extremely quick to clear plates—so much so that one of our party members still had food in their mouth when their plate was cleared away. Our dishes disappeared the moment a fork hit the table, and dessert was never even offered.
Our reservation was at 5:00 p.m., and we were finished and out the door by 6:36 p.m., so it certainly wasn’t a case of us lingering. As we stepped out, we could see two new parties being seated immediately at our table. While we understand the restaurant was busy, it took away from what could have been a relaxed, enjoyable dining experience.

We have been to Chew Chew Cafe several times and have never been disappointed. It is busy enough that you do need a reservation on weekends. Ambiance is enjoyable. The service is outstanding- the servers really hustle! Menu options are perfect and priced correctly. Chef does a fabulous job of preparing a great meal, lovely presentation and very delicious. Drinks are delicious as well.

The food was excellent, but we felt rushed out by an over-eager bus person who cleared plates the instant we finished (one of us was still chewing!). Dessert wasn't even offered. Our 5:00 p.m. reservation ended by 6:36 p.m., and two new parties were seated as we left. Great food, but the pace made it hard to relax and enjoy.

Server took order then disappeared for entire dining 'experience' - not even checking back to see if food was good - or when I set 'flatbread' to the side after eating 2 bites (crust was so tough you couldn't cut ot pull apart ... & no word about tomato being added to top of pizza (can't eat them)- not edible & she didn't care to check back. Bread for table was good
This restaurant is one of our very favorites. The manager is always there to greet us and show us to our table. No waiting. Our server, Lauren, is just wonderful. We've enjoyed her service for years. Last night I enjoyed the Steak Diane. I had not had it for quite awhile. It was the best I've had there. The wine reduction gravy was thick and delicious. I could not finish it all. It comes with mashed potatoes and carrots. My husband had the salmon, which he loves. Our son enjoyed two of the specials - an appetizer and main course. The main course he chose was a wrapped steak with all sorts of things inside. I love that they have multiple mocktails for those who are driving and want something special to drink that is not alcoholic. Just a wonderful place. You can have conversations at the table - it is not as loud as so many restaurants are. Just great.

Our first mistake was accepting seating in the bar area. There were other tables open and we should have insisted on getting one away from the noisy bar patrons and from being sandwiched between two bigger groups. It wasn't the best place to talk to our dining companions. Some food was great (oysters, pot stickers, scallops), some was not so great. The same flavorless crab "stuffing" filled the rainbow trout and also sat atop the crab and avocado bowl. It was not great. The texture was creamy and off-putting and had zero crab flavor. Both go on the "do not order again" list. Service was prompt and pleasant. Drinks were excellent. We will be back but we will learn from this visit. This is such a fairly priced neighborhood place, we'd just like it to have consistently good food and we will ask for a better table.
