Let me start by saying the service and atmosphere are absolutely excellent. Our waitress was exceptional and really went above and beyond for us.I personally don't feel as though the food is worth the price. It was good with the exception of the scallop plate. We were unaware it was served raw, and the smell was so strong it actually upset me. It smelled like a fishing boat.I believe you can definitely get the same caliber of food from abreo for a better price. We got three small plates, and two large plates. The portion size is abysmal, my partners salmon plate came with a piece of plain salmon the size of a deck of cards, and a single bok choy for $40ish dollars. Maybe I'm viewing this as a meal and need to be viewing it as a "tasting experience" but to be honest, it still wouldn't be worth it.My final gripe is that on our bill we were charged a "employee health fee" of three percent. Considering how much it costs to eat here, they should be able to figure out how to offer healthcare to their employees without tacking it on to the patrons tab.

Very very professional and attentive to my needs at all time. Food was excellent and served well! The atmosphere and music was delightful to hear. I recommend this restaurant and happily give them 5 stars across the board.

Waited over an hour for food. My chicken tenders were burnt to all hell, not even seasoning could hide the the fact they were severely overcooked. Dad got the wrong meal, and the scallops were RAW. Nice environment though. Was so bad I almost ordered dessert, but not because I thought it'd be good, to cleanse my mouth of what I'd just consumed. + 1 star for pretty waiters and waitresses

My husband’s 3 scallops were raw. That was his large dinner plate. The thighs and fries was over done and the 3 ravioli’s again large dinner plate was not good. However the pork chop was just ok. Worst $280 I ever spent Happy Birthday to me.

I’ve heard great things about here so i decided to give it a try… however i may have had my expectations higher, this place did not meet them. The ambiance is nice and our server was very knowledgeable; however i don’t think the food is all that it’s cracked to be. The oysters were pretty good, different than what i expected but good. I had the salmon for dinner and i felt like there really was no flavor, they add broth to your plate so that helped, but at the same time i thought it was going to be really good. My date had steak and he said it was good but he’s had better, they did make it to medium rare which is pretty good but after our date we were not full. Personally i probably wouldn’t come back i would just go to another restaurant. The drinks were great, maybe i would come here again for the bar, but honestly the food wasnt all that. Unfortunately i didn’t take a photo of our entres.-It it pretty nice that they have a good selection of vegetarian options.

Winter update: I was contacted about the reservation fee and was happy to find that they stop the charge when you arrive and check in. Good to know! We returned for round two and the experience was as below. Winter 2024: I very much wanted to love their winter menu but what we tried just didn't do it for me. Our server was very nice and enthusiastic about the menu; they were offering a set menu for $50 that was four courses sounded promising but the thing that made me not go for it is the gumbo. After moving up here from Louisiana I have high expectations of gumbo and I personally had made a big pot a week before so it just wasn't thrilling us. That's not at all on them though so I don't count it as a negative. Since we were more interested in the regular menu she recommended a few items and we chose her selections. The meal: all of our cocktails were excellent. They really should keep their bartender and not let him or her go. The raclette pierogis were tasty and I particularly liked the crème fraîche, but I missed the texture of the dough when seared in butter. I also was really hoping for a blanket of cheese, because to me that's what a "raclette pierogi" is advertising. The pistachio dessert was a nice change because it had such a nice pistachio flavor and paired excellently with the little quenelle of raspberry ice cream, and was not your typical Rockford dessert. Definitely a highlight. Each other dish had some technical flaws that affected the dish. The smoked walleye appetizer was pretty to look at but all I could taste was somewhat greasy bread and naturally-oily aioli; I couldn't get much flavor from the fish; the dill and onion could have not been there and I wouldn't have known. It was oily enough that it needed some acid to cut through the oil and we couldn't finish the bread unfortunately. The plating was on point though! The bone in ribeye was missing the deeply beefy flavor I associate with the dry aging process, and the steak just didn't get the nice sear I love on a steak. The inner temperature was perfect though, and there were no complaints about the potatoes and sauce. It wasn't a bad steak but it didn't live up to the price point of $89. The scallops were the saddest for me only because of the expectations set when we ordered. One of my favorite things about scallops is again an amazing sear. I honestly wasn't going to get the scallops due to having been burnt a few times in Rockford but the server, completely without cue, mentioned how well the scallops are seared so I thought I'd be safe. Unfortunately they still looked very anemic when set in front of me. The flavor was great, and I overall liked them but I had really been hoping for a nice sear. Two were a little gritty and seemed like they just needed a little more of a rinse. The risotto had a nice flavor and paired with the scallop beautifully, my only small ding was the rice was a little al dente. We both agreed that overall we were satisfied with the meal in general but didn't feel it lived up to the sticker price. Again there are Chicago prices charged but not quite Chicago quality. We really want SALT. to succeed and I'm sure we'll give them another go (even if just for their great cocktails!) but I don't feel that the quality that is expected when paying these prices was there this visit. Hoping the next menu will show continued improvement!

Excellent food, impeccable service, classy but not stuffy, they have a variety of different items on the menu and the cuisine doesn't lean to just one genre. I dined with a party of 10 and they had something for everyone and all food sensitivities. We ordered almost every app from the menu. Standouts were the milk bread, cauliflower, and walleye tartine. I had the quail for my entree which was a special for the month. It was delicious and although it looked small, the way it was paired, it was filling. Everyone licked their plates clean. Definitely recommend for a special night out.

First time diner, winter menu was robust and had many unique offerings. I loved the high quality ingredients. I felt that those ingredients would be put to better use with better technique in the kitchen. Bread was overcooked, chicken pot pie was dry. However, service was 11/10. The atmosphere was odd, odd music choices and a library like atmosphere. Of course these are my own personal preferences and I’ll be encouraging everyone to try SALT! Pricing is set for special occasions, I just wished the food matched that expectation. Considering the menu was seasonal I’m hoping it just didn’t cater to my tastes in this instance.Dietary restrictions: They were quick to ensure we had no dietary restrictions before we ordered.

I had a great time at SALT last weekend. The food was good, the atmosphere was great, but the real star was our server, Kayla. She was the best! She is a highly skilled server with a sparkly personality!

We had our company holiday party last night at Salt. and it was fantastic!!! There were 35 of us and they did an amazing job with service, food and drinks. Zizi worked with me for a couple of months to make a menu for us and make sure all of our special requirements were met. The entire staff was very nice, very professional and very accommodating. The food was excellent and creative. We'll be coming back!
