PRO: VERY LARGE SELECTION, GOOD ICE CREAM, CLEAN, COURTEOUS STAFF, COMPLIMENTARY TOPPINGS AND (STARBUCKS) COFFEE

CONS: NONTRANSPARENT PRICING, HIGH PRICE POINT, PAY BY WEIGHT

Everything was fine except for the pricing. They charge by the weight here, which is unusual. One should expect to pay about $7~$8 per scoop. There is a sign advising customers they charge by weight, but the cost is not posted. We had 2 adults and 2 kids (3 regular scoops and 1 kid scoop), and the total was $30.93 after taxes. I do not know how the other offerings are priced (such as sundaes and splits). I recommend you ask about the pricing up front, to avoid sticker shock at checkout.

The pricing is higher than your typical mom & pop ice cream shop. The high price point is somewhat understandable given its premium location (Arboretum of South Barrington), so there's the mall factor. That being said, think concession stand prices at the movies or ballpark.

No complaints on the product side. The ice cream is good, stored well, and there are plenty of choices (they boast having 80 flavors). They sell the Howling Cow brand, which is an excellent ice cream brand. FYI, Howling Cow is also served at many local ice cream shops. I heard they used to serve other brands as well, but was the only brand that I noticed at the time of our visit.

Ice cream toppings and Starbucks brewed coffee are complimentary. The toppings section is a basic DIY set up (various sprinkles, candies, nuts, syrups, etc). Coffee is provided in a self-serve airpot.

Service was good. Young man helping us was courteous and we were served quickly.

The shop was clean and well lit. The seating area is not big, but not tiny either. There were 2 kid sized tables for the kiddos, and they had several regular tables and chairs for us big kids. Ambience was quiet when we were there (Sunday night). The shop has a warehouse-ish feel. The shop is separated but not walled up, so you can see the storage area and all the coolers lined up in back. It wasn't a mess, everything seemed to be well organized.

Despite the pricing, we still enjoyed our visit. Good service and good ice cream, though I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way to visit again. But if you are already out and about at the Arboretum, it is certainly a good option for a treat.

Parking: This is an outdoor mall, set up like main street. There's usually parking in front, but you may have to park further and walk a little bit during peak hours.

Came here after dinner at Georgio’s, but I hope I don’t come back.

Ice cream is decent, all flavors don’t taste fresh. But the main reason not to come? They converted to a ā€œsold by weightā€ pricing method. It’s cool, you’re an independent business so do as you wish. But shouldn’t you display the price on a menu board? No pricing whatsoever besides the one displayed on the POS after they weigh the ice cream.

$1.35 an ounce so one scoop comes out to about $7. They don’t even offer a kids scoop, so if you come with a lot of kids, get ready to get robbed lol

Good luck, but I won’t visit again 😊

The owner was practically yelling at young employee while we were there very disrespectful and should treat them with more respect because he was very nice and helpful to customers. No need to be aggressive with these kids that are learning. Ice cream was good.

We came here after a movie on Friday night because it was just across the parking lot. It was 10:15 on a Friday night and the sign on the door says open till 11 Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Right as we walked up they locked the doors and shut the lights off. I guess I can understand closing early due to slow business but I just feel they should put a sign up maybe? They clearly saw me and made eye contact. I just feel like the right thing to do and proper customer service would have been to serve me. Now that I’m reading the reviews, I’m so glad I didn’t waste my money.

Ice cream was fine, decent quality (but same brand that can be found at other ice cream shops in the area), but for two cups of ice cream we paid $42(!). It’s pay by weight, but they scoop for you and I didn’t see any prices listed anywhere. Felt weird when we checked out asking them to take some out. Not worth the price.

Way overpriced. They charge by weight, but there’s no prices posted anywhere. It was nearly $40 for a family of 4, 2 of which were kids.

Loved the 80 flavor option and the ice cream was delicious, but there should be a sign posted that are TWO different prices based on premium favors, etc- nothing noted, indicated on cases, mentioned by employees or posted. Buyer beware šŸ˜‰

Ordered my ice cream with a brownie and it was 14 dollars for a small brownie that was too hot in a small cup and the scoop was PATHETIC. The fact that it goes by weight is dumb. It’s not worth going.

It was very expensive - $16 for 2 scoops of ice cream in a cup! There were no prices around. After getting the ice cream you are entitled to "free" toppings at another counter, which in my opinion, was already paid for in the high price of ice cream.there was a huge amount of flavors to choose - at least 60 flavors. The ice cream case labeled each flavor with the trademark logo of Chocolate Shoppe Ice cream but that was not the brand of ice cream in the case. It seems like there were many brands but you couldn't read all the names on the ice cream containers. I would not go back because it is way too expensive for one, and unclear what brand of ice cream one is really eating. The ice cream server had no idea she said, as she only worked there.

barebone knock off baskin robbin the only thing that is redeeming about this store is the free topping which are your typical ice cream parlor shops. It was pretty expensive for the ice cream, i would honestly just go to an oberweiis where the ice cream is not artificial as this place. TLDR avoid this place at all costs as it is charging more for convenience than quality of ice cream.
