We have had our kids cake done here for 3 years now and each time they continue to amaze me. I added the characters on this one but everything else was done by them. The design, the colors and taste of the cake itself exceeded my expectations.

I had a horrible experience with ordering a custom cake for our daughter’s first birthday here. I had ordered the cake weeks in advance and received a confirmation email for my cake inquiry from their store manager. 2 days before the party I receive a phone call at 7:30am from smallcakes in which my phone rang once and no voicemail was left. I called the day before the birthday party to confirm cake pick up and they tell me my order was cancelled as it was not paid 3 days prior.

I understand if it was my fault for not realizing payment was needed 3 days prior amongst all my party planning, but what is most irritating is that they claimed to have called me and left me a voicemail about this which they did not. There was no follow-up call or email about the payment before outright cancelling my order.

We were left scrambling to find a cake a day before the party thanks to the poor way my order was handled. We had a good experience ordering a custom cake here in the past, but after this we don’t ever want to order from here again.

They did our recent gender reveal cake and knocked it out of the park! Not only did it look exactly like the design idea I shared with them, but it tasted incredible. I literally liked this cake better than my own wedding cake, haha!

I'm annoyed that I drove all the way here to be told I have to place a cake order online??? I never had to do that before .... I've order cakes in person for years here... I hate doing online orders because they never come out like I want them!

Total drops of heaven!!!! Smallcakes in South Barrington makes the absolute BEST gourmet cupcakes my family has ever tasted. The cupcakes are just delicious, so moist and truly melt in your mouth. They are the perfect amount of sweetness and the ratio of cake to filling to frosting is down to an exact science! There are so many different flavors to choose from, including the specials that change frequently! The colors and design of frosting are so bright and elaborate….best of all the colors do NOT stain your face…even the BRIGHT NEON PINK!…..my kids could devour 2 without me ever knowing ;) The shop is also a perfect location in the Arboretum, very neat, clean and has a bit of a French cafe feel.

Besides the outstanding beautiful cupcakes, the employees are so helpful and thoughtful every time we come! They truly put their heart and soul into baking! Keep them coming!!! Can’t wait to try the custom cakes and gelato!

The pricing was very reasonable, especially for the high quality, and the entire process was so easy and stress-free. I really appreciated the tasting option, which made it fun to choose our flavors. Tried the dairy free gluten free yellow cupcake with sprinkles for the first time and it was amazing! The cupcake was so moist and light and tasty that I could not tell it wasn’t a normal cupcake. It was so good I went back the next day and bought the last 2 yellow cake lemon drop ones. Please make more yellow gluten and dairy free cupcakes!!!

Birthday Cake for our daughter. Red velvet, whole party LOVED it. Everyone asked where it was from-it was SO GOOD! They were easy to work with, polite, and decorated it beautifully!
