Really disappointed with the food here. It’s been about a year since we’ve visited and I remember the chicken fingers being lightly breaded, which was great. Yesterday, even my order arrived it looked like I got 6 puff pastries. It was not good. For $18.99 I substituted veggies for fries and the soup was okay. Total bill for 2 was $50. The waitress was polite and attentive so I left 20%. But I hope it was just a bad batch because it was no good.

I’ll look for future reviews to see if anyone else has issues

My sister and I were at The Village Tavern in South Elgin on Monday for the corned beef and cabbage. It was not good and it was overpriced. But my biggest issue is with the bill.

We were charged 15.7% sales tax when it should have been 7.5%.

I brought this to the server's attention but she did not adjust the bill and just said that she doesn't know anything about the tax. She said the manager had just left and she couldn't reach her.

At my request, she did text me later with an explanation where the math did not add up nor the reason why it happened. I took her up on her offer to have the owner call me. That never happened.

She said that they corrected the problem but I would recommend checking your bill carefully if you go there.

A busy place with a decent menu. Plenty of specials. Had the slab of ribs, could have been hotter. A good server at this popular place.

Worst food experience. We came for the St. Patrick's Day special and were disgusted. Ordered the Reuben Wrap, a new addition to the menu, and was described the same as the Reuben sandwich on their regular menu: "Lean, hand-cut Corned Beef...". Nothing about this meat was lean. Felt like we were eating thick-cut rubber. Told our waitress (who was actually lovely), she said she could discount the meal after talking to the manager. Manager came to our table and said "we probably won't put it on the menu next year" but did nothing to discount our meal or make up for this disgusting experience. Never coming back.

We had lunch. I had the pot roast and everyone else had the chicken fingers. All was great.

Always enjoy Village Tavern, usually visit the one in Schaumburg, but happened to be in Elgin. Very nice, clean and updated versus the Schaumburg location.

Everything was good, but I could’ve skipped their one mock tail. It was interesting though.

My family's favorite go to restaurant. We love coming to the one in Schaumburg, The Village Tavern. We came here with my sis in law last week on a Tuesday late afternoon, not so busy. I like it here. My husband and I love their chicken tenders. This place is awesome, clean, friendly staff.

I found the service to be excellent, the food was very good and reasonably priced and everything was very clean. I don't live in IL but if I visit that area again I will definitely eat there.

Based on take-away experience:
Fish and chicken fingers dinners are delish. Their honey-mustard is amazing. Fried mushrooms were huge and beer battered but so over salted I couldn't eat them. We have received incomplete take-away orders twice.
