I wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars. I really did. If only we had come one day earlier and been able to sample the cornbread. But alas, it was not meant to be. The location is great. Within walking distance of the Old State Capitol and the Abraham Lincoln Preaidental Library and Museum. The restaurant itself is bare and unassuming. But why you really come here is for the food. We visited on on Saturday so many of the items were unavailable as they had sold out the previous day. The food is all homemade and you can tell. Our table all ordered the pulled pork and it was SO good. The sides were as equally delicious. The coleslaw was spicy and creamy. Chili powder or cumin or cayenne pepper. I'm not quite sure and the owner wasn't giving up any family secrets. The mac and cheese was also very good. The only disappointment was that they were out of cornbread and I love cornbread. Oh well, I will try it next time.

This restaurant is OPEN. It is across from the Old State Capital building on 5th. I stopped by yesterday while in town for work. The sauce is excellent and the food is fresh and delicious. I had the pulled chicken sandwich, two orders of greens and the mac and cheese. I can't wait to return. Service was excellent.

If I could give them -10, I would. Was ordering my food and was complaining to my cousin on the about their prices and stated to her could get thus cheaper in Chicago and the person taking my order responded that I was not in Chicago. I told I was not talking to him, I'm on the phone and you are in my conversation. He responded that he was the owner and if I got a problem I could leave. Well, I wanted to support a black own business, but I'm spending my money in a business that not respectful to me. I do have the option to speak MY opinion and apparently this owner had a problem with it.

These are the best smoked ribs in town. Smoky and delicious. The cornbread is out of this world--southern style--not too sweet with great texture. Very friendly service that is welcoming and good humored.

Unfortunately, I cannot give a review of the service or quality of food at this establishment because every time I go, they're closed. I've gone to this restaurant on 3 different occasions, during their posted business hours, and they've been closed. Not sure if it's due to the pandemic, but either way, I won't be wasting my time by attempting to patronize an establishment that is seemingly never open for business.

I went in and ordered take out. Ordered brisket sandwich with side of Mac and cheese for my husband. Ordered pulled chicken sandwich with collard greens for myself. My order was large in size, delicious and juicy. Greens were excellent. My husband’s brisket was small in volume, totally dry and inedible. His mac and cheese was also dry and not very good. We tried calling because we thought they would want to know. No one answered and there was no room to leave a message. I went on line to their website and sent them a message explaining what we encountered once again thinking they would want to know. Message said someone would be back in touch soon. Since it has been 24 hours, and no response from them, I believe they deserve this low review.

We ordered take-out for the first time. All I can say is, my pulled chicken was melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful and a most generous portion. Husband’s spare ribs were tender and had great flavor- we highly recommend this friendly and hard-working restaurant.

Food was outstanding. We had 2 items . The pulled pork sandwich . Meat was piled high, tender ,juicy and had pleasant smoked flavor on a gourmet bun. The ribs were outstanding. Tender and moist with great flavor. The cole slaw has some kick to it but was also good and very well prepared. If you don't like spice try a differrent side. This place is great. Support local businesses in 2021
