The girl that waited on us was so chill. In taking my time to figure out my order, changing it throughout, and adding to it multiple times, all the while she remained cool and totally unbothered. She didn't forget a thing either, the order was bagged up perfect. And of course the food was great!

They allowed Our Lords name to be taken in vain on a flier posted in their front window for Oktoberfest. I asked when I walked in ready to buy a sandwich if anyone can just post a flier? The person I spoke with said , “Yes but it has to be approved by a manager and I happen to be one of the managers. I said. “Great! There is a poster in the window that offends Our Lords Name by using His Name in vaIn and it is offensive to me as well.” He replied,”it doesn’t bother me.” Then another worker asked me if I had been helped to order. I said ,”No I was going to order a sandwich but since the manager allows God’s Name to be offended and think nothing about it I won’t be back again,”
I had never been to one of these shops, when all of a sudden I remembered I moved here 40 years ago!
It was time.
First off I love pastrami and asked the girl if they had any sandwiches with it. Right away I thought what did I say to get her to have such an attitude with me. It was if I said something in poor taste about her dreadlocks...
It went downhill from there.
Several times I asked questions and she ignored me. And I made it clear it was my first time there at the Toronto Rd location, or any Head West.
Enough about her. The sandwich. One clear thought came through loud and clear- I wish I had bought a bigger sandwich (#4) as it was absolutely delicious. From the fantastic bread to the contents. It almost rivals the famous Robyn at Boobies in Carbondale.
Anyway, I'll be back, just not until she has an attitude adjustment.
PS. That bread is the best!

We stopped in a trip through the area. Food was excellent. Staff was helpful and friendly. Experience was fantastic. Enjoyed eating outside at picnic table with our small dog. Couldn't ask for a better experience! Enjoyed the turkey ranch bacon provolone. The bread, which they explained was locally sourced, was superior!

Went here for the first time while heading home and just WOW! Fantastic place. Food was great size for the price, and the pick 2 is plenty to fill someone up. The baked potato soup is easily a top 5 all time for me. Will be back!

We stopped in at 1pm on a Saturday. There was one order ahead of us in line and somehow it took 30 minutes to make two half subs. It appeared they lost the ticket until we asked about our order, 15 minutes later, we finally had two sloppy and messy subs. The employees were rude about their mistake and didn’t even apologize for the unreasonable wait.

Can not comment on the food. The young lady at the order station was sullen and would not speak to us. A young man came from another room and he just looked at us, said nothing. My husband said “is no one talking today?” Which was met with a glare that shot daggers and after a significant pause she spoke “you know what you want yet?” We chose not to spend our money there.

The staffs speed level for taking care of customers is incredible slow and they all wear a frown on their faces.

Everything was fine until the general manager said something so inappropriate that made me lose my appetite & that he made comment to one of his female co-workers that I did not think was appropriate & I would not like to see that type behavior in this environment it’s disgusting and wrongful to the woman that works in that workplace.

I am not local to Springfield but have been eating at HeadWest Subs for almost 20 years. I prefer to support locally owned, small businesses vs large chains when I can, and these guys make it easy to earn my repeat business
When I drive i55 between St Louis and Chicago, Headwest Subs on Toronto Rd on the south side of Springfield is a must stop. The sandwiches are great, truly above average, the sweet bread is to die for, it's close to a fuel station, and it's super easy to get on and off i55 at their exit. They have some vegetarian/meet free options that my wife enjoys.
There is a Subway about 100 feet away, I am beyond perplexed as to how Headwest hasn't put them out of business - the sandwich quality at Headwest is just so much better!

Reminds me of being at a festival in the summertime listening to The Other Ones, or Phish. And the staff are hands down some of the best around, and the subs and soup are amazing!!
