We had not been here before but made reservations for tonight. I had the pear salad which was simply delicious. Then I had gnocchi carbonara which was also excellent. My wife had a salad with spiced cauliflower and figs which she thought was wonderful, followed by heated brie with cherries and crostini. It was amazing. Amy, our server, was helpful with my wife's choices (Laura is vegetarian). The only downside was a large table behind us was very loud, possibly from too much alcohol, and the piped-in music wasn't what we consider appropriate for dinner and a quiet conversation. It also was too loud. But we'll be back; I want the pear salad again and a main course of bone marrow and short rib marmalade. Dinner was $30-50 per person.3/17/2024: Please note that the online dinner and brunch menus are out-of-date, so if there's something you want to eat, you ought to phone to find out if it's still available. We went for brunch today, and I wanted the posole, but it's no longer on the brunch menu. My wife had the gluten free pancakes, but the first was wasn't cooked through. However, the chef immediately made another entire order, and Laura was happy. I had the 3-course brunch ($30): braised bacon in maple syrup and cracked pepper (excellent), shrimp & grits (rich and flavorful), and key lime pie (delicious). Kari, our server, was top notch. The most disappointing thing was that a guest couple didn't show up (they forgot to mark their calendar).Luminary has interesting dishes with unique touches. I've had shrimp & grits dozens of times, but never like this with garlic butter, jalapenos, and a sunny side up egg over large prawns. It may be the best I've ever eaten, better than in New Orleans or Charleston. The pie had lime zest in the mix and not the usual almost jelly-like texture. Brunch was terrific, and we'll be back.Brunch was $20-30 per person. The music track was really bluesy which really matched the brunch dining.

I'm from the StL area and this place gave me those vibes. We went for Sunday brunch and the venue had a very good ambiance. Kari was our server and she was very attentive and polite. I did the 3 course for $30. The potato bacon soup to start followed by the shrimp and grits. They were both very good and had a lot of taste. The apple cake was the last course and wasn't overly sweet. My wife got the steak frites. The caramelized onions were phenomenal on the steak along w the butter. The steak frites also came w a beer for $31. We tried multiple drinks though I can't remember the names to them. One was a PB whiskey with root beer and some other ingredients (it was called Lunchbox) which was very good. My wife got the espresso martini which had almond liqueur. It gave it a slightly different taste than a regular espresso martini but I thought was very good.

Vegetarian options: They can usually always make something vegetarian. They will mark items that are or can be made vegetarian.Dietary restrictions: They always have had gluten free vegetarian options for my friend. They are able to mark on the menu what is gluten free

Had reservations at this place with a buddy for 7PM for roman night, so just me and him. Two people. This was my first time coming to this place. And I gotta say, not coming back again. Now the question is, why? Glad you asked, because I’m going to lay out my experience. To start, it was $85 per person. So with me and my buddy, it was a $170 planed dinner (Before tax and drinks (We paid separate though)), with 7 different menu items. If you average that out, that should be roughly $12 per menu item, per person, for a total of 14 items (7 items for each person, assuming). Boy was I confused, and disappointed by how that worked out in the end. First item was a Cabbage & Cashew salad. We only got one little bowl of it to split between me and my buddy. About two spoon fulls for each of us to eat. Was nice and lite, but figured that was just to warm us up for the rest of the food. Figure that’s why we only got one bowl, and not one for each of us. Second item was a Tempura Shrimp. We got two shrimp. . . All together. . . One for me, and one for my buddy. . . Super confused about that one. Was really good, wished I had more of it. But like. . . only two shrimp to split? Third item was a Duck Gyoza. We got 4 of those, so two gyoza for me, and two gyoza for my buddy. Was alright, nothing crazy. Again, though, that’s it? Fourth was then our curry fried rice. It came in a slightly bigger bowl. We split that up between us, and we each had about 4ish bites each before that was all eaten up. Good rice. More would have been nice. Filth item we got was Mazemen Noodles with Karaage chicken thighs. We finally got a small bowl to ourselves. Couple bits worth of meat on the top of the noodles. Pretty solid dish. But, only maybe 4-6 bites worth all together, pending how you eat. Sixth item we got, was the Ramen. Bit of meat, and poached egg, and other things. We each got our own bowl again. Same bowl the rice was in, with Little noodles, broth was a touch too strong, and while good overall, just again, small portions. Not many bites, and was eaten up pretty quickly by both of us. And finally, the seventh item. Black sesame chocolate cake, with a pistachio ice cream. The cake tasted like those whipped cream cakes at a grocery store, and the cake was bland. It was just, not good at all. The ice cream, was cold. . . maybe a hint of sweet, but very underwhelming. Had the right color though. Didn’t even finish eating at this point. Ended up with half a cake left. So with that, if we break down the average cost of the items above between me and my bud, we have these fun stats; - 4ish spoon fulls of cabbage worth $24 - 2 Shrimp worth $24 ($12 for 1 shrimp) - 4 gyoza worth $24 ($6 per Gyoza) - 8ish bites worth of curry rice for $24 - 4-6 bites worth of Mazemen Noodles with Karaage chicken thigh for $12 per bowl ($24 total sense we got one for each of us) - Small bowl of Ramen for $12 each ($24 total sense we got one for each of us) - Couple bites worth of cake, and couple bites worth of ice cream for $12 per plate ($24 total sense we got a plate for each of us) Aside from the portions, the spacing between the items was kinda absurd. We were there for almost two and a half hours. Imagine having a cabbage salad, two spoons fulls worth to eat, wait 15-20 minutes for the shrimp (The one shrimp each), eat that, and wait another 15-20+ minutes for the next small item. I understand pacing for planned dinner meals like this, but like, it was too slow. My total was $95 and change with tax and a soda can. I gave my server $100, and left the rest for him. A Bad tip sadly. Not his fault though, but after that experience, I didn’t want to pay more then what I already did. And what really sucks, is after spending that much money, and time, I was still hungry. I have never, EVER! Left a restaurant hungry before. Me and my pal went to Burger King after we left, because we were still hungry. $100 “worth” of food, and we were still hungry. I felt scammed, honestly. It’s a shame. I liked the food for the most part, but between the small portions, s

Great lunches!! 5 stars for lunch! Creative, fresh, high quality and worth the price. Lunch is $15-20. Dinner is $20+ for similar items with a just a few extra items. Dinners aren't bad, but not worth the price. Other places serve better dinners for the same price.

The food was excellent. Really tasty and things you can’t get other places. The menu changes every now and then. The music was overpowering for the small space but I think they did turn it down some when we asked as we had someone with hearing aids and they couldn’t be in the conversation due to the music. Service was also outstanding. Pricey but I don’t mind paying if the food is worth it. Interesting cocktails.Dietary restrictions: Willing to work with food allergies

Luminary is an artisan vibe restaurant. I've eaten there twice- dinner back in early spring and Sunday Brunch this winter. I didn't review after our spring visit because I was so torn- great appetizers-much less successful entrees. I feel after two visits- I have a better sense of the food they're creating at Luminary. The menu changes from visit to visit. The menu online on the day we visited was different than the menu in the restaurant. The table started with 2 orders of beignet. Each order was 4 beignets- coated in cinnamon and sugar. I would not recommend these- as all were raw/doughy inside. It was unfortunate they were not fully cooked- I don't send food back, so it was what it was. Two diners ordered the 3 course brunch menu. At $30 prix fixe my review is mixed. The first entree's- ricotta pancakes and maple braised bacon were both hits. They were both small portions. The second courses were eggs Benedict and Chilaquiles. These were entree size and both were tasty. The pork on the Benedict was spicy. The third (dessert) course was only a single offering- sticky toffee cake. When I say the portion was a bite- it really was only a bite. If not for the toffee sauce- the cake had very little flavor. The cake itself had a "wheat" taste- not yummy. Our other diners ordered a la carte and included the big boy (burger), Brussels sprouts, and warm burrata. All of the a la carte offerings were tasty and I would recommend. The warm burrata comes with a large sliced baguette. The big boy includes fries. We didn't order cocktails with Sunday brunch- but for dinner in the spring all our cocktails were hand crafted and delicious. Luminary is definitely worth a visit. Great vibe for a date or meeting friends. Food-wise, some great hits and a few misses.
