Hands down the most welcoming establishment upon entering, then this mouth watering giant plate of delicious walleye comes out ! And the Mac n cheese!!! This hidden gem is our new favorite!!!!

We traveled to Springfield to visit some of the historical sites and stayed at an Airbnb right across the street from MJ's. The food was great! We had the walleye, slaw, fries, rib tips, green beans and pecan pie. Everything was yummy! We had a chance to sit and chat with the owner, Margaret, and she was a gem. We would recommend this place if you're in the Springfield area.

I had the the cat fish, green beans, and the fried tomatoes and it was delicious. The owner came and talked with us. Waitress great. We will definitely be going back.

This was my first time at MJ's and it was fantastic, I had the walleye lunch with greens and cornbread. Everything was cooked perfectly, nice light breading on the fish and the greens were so flavorful. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I will definitely be back

I’m from Houston, Texas so I’ve been looking for some good soul food that made me feel like I was back home and I must say MJs didn’t disappoint! The chicken was freshly fried, well seasoned and so gold you could probably sell it at the pawn shop. The potato salad *chefs kiss, the Mac n cheese was delicious home made. All my southern folks these other restaurants are not real soul food . MJs is where I will be going from now on. The owners should be proud of this gem. I didn’t take a picture of the food because I almost ate the plate too 😂😂😂 . See yall again soon

I ordered 20 wings cauliflower ,10 wing French fries ,extra ranch .I ask him directly face to face when he brought my order out the extra sauce and fries are in there ,HE SAYS YES MAM ITS IN THE BAG ,HES WAS VERY NICE AND HAD GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THERE WAS NO FRENCH FRIES AND 1 RANCH I DONT APPRECIATE TIPING 14.00 AND BEING LIED TO I HOPE THE OWNER TAKES CARE OF THIS PERHAPS HAVING HIM CHECK EACH ORDER AS HE IS SACKING IT .

Almost impossible to call in for pick up. Always busy! Went in for lunch. Got walleye lunch with two sides, walleye chicken wing combo with no sides, 2 drinks. The waitress brought 2 sodas but we ordered a soda and tea. Told her to leave the extra soda as a refill. Got the bill. $43.57. Charged for 3 drinks and a 15% service fee. Will definitely rethink going back even tho their fish is good.

This is, bar none, the BEST food in Springfield IL! Margaret the owner and her husband Jerome have created a restaurant in a beautiful and quiet corner of Springfield that offers the best food you will taste not just in this city but in this entire area. Part of the reason is that Margaret trained as a chef at a prestigious cooking school in North Carolina and has spent years perfecting her recipes. But more importantly, it’s that their standards of excellent food are upheld with every single dish they send out to their customers. Every single time I go there, for years now, the food is just as excellent as the first day. And when Margaret encourages me to try new dishes, they are FANTASTIC TOO! Love, care, skill and hard work make a difference in every profession and business. But at MJs, you can literally TASTE it. If you’re in the area on a trip, or if you’re a local who’s never popped by, don’t be fooled by the humble exterior. It’s beautiful and very clean inside. Don’t be chased off by the small amount of parking, there’s a public park across the street with free parking! And don’t mistake the quiet humility of both Margaret and Jerome. They are EXPERTS of their craft. And if you come to MJs or have them cater an event for you you’ll taste that for yourself!
