We used La Huerta a couple of weeks ago to provide the food for a retirement party at our house. I went into the store to talk to them about my options and was thrilled with the catering gal, Josie! She gave me her cell number and asked me to text her with any questions I had ahead of the party. Great service! Not only does she know everything about the food they offer but she helped me with suggestions of how much to order, tips for covering tables safely because of the sternos, allowed us to borrow chafing trays and sternos for the day (free as long as we returned next day), delivery option and margarita machine you can borrow if you would like. They offer 3 sizes of tray options which is great to accommodate your size party. We ordered enough food that delivery was free and much to my surprise, that did include someone setting it up and lighting the sternos. They even included plastic serving utensils. We basically just needed to have the tables ready to go prior to their arrival. As for the food….. excellent! Big hit! We did have leftovers, but we packed it up and I think it may have been even tastier the second day! Something I would recommend that you may not consider is the fruit tray, beautifully cut fruit and very fresh. What we did order was three types of meat for tacos – shredded chicken, AlPastor and Asada, refried beans, rice, street corn, chips and of course, guacamole, pico and salsa. All fantastic – would definitely recommend!

La Huerta has usually been our go-to spot. We're locals here in St. Charles and have been coming since we moved to the area. It's convenient, and up until recently, we've consistently received great service. Most of the staff have always been friendly and helpful.

However, things seem to have changed lately, possibly due to a shift in management, because the atmosphere has felt more tense during recent visits.

The experience that prompted this review happened today, June 22nd, around 5:30 PM. I stopped by to pick up a couple of items from the meat section. I knew the store closed in about 30 minutes, so I wasn’t planning on taking up much time.

After waiting at the counter for 2–3 minutes, the butcher came out and asked, in a noticeably rude tone, if I needed something. It was obvious I was waiting for assistance, I wasn’t just standing there for no reason. I asked for 3 lbs. of meat and requested that it be cut into strips, as they’ve done many times before when I’ve asked. He declined, saying he didn’t have time and still had closing duties to finish.

I understand the timing might not have been ideal, but I was the only person in the section, and my request wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. What bothered me most wasn’t the refusal, it was the attitude. A simple, polite response would’ve gone a long way.

On top of that, this particular butcher has made offhand comments in the past that I’ve found inappropriate, like asking where my dad is and implying he’s home drinking. I don’t think that’s professional or necessary.

I didn’t want to leave a negative review, especially as a loyal customer, but I think respectful service should be consistent regardless of the time of day. I hope management addresses this, as we’ve always liked shopping here.

Overall rating for the hot food only: 4.5. I didnt really check out the store. I got a chicken quesadilla with mild arbol salsa. It was delicious. Very filling and generously portioned. Fair warning, the chicken isn't dry so it was a tad messy from the juice. My husband got the taco dinner with al pastor and the avocado salsa. It was good and very filling. He said next time, he would just do the tacos without the rice and beans since he was too full. We also got a side of street corn to take home. It is delicious. I love the tajin on top. It was my favorite part. There is no seating inside. Your food will be made and then seran wrapped like at a deli to be paid up front. Prices were fine to me. Cheaper than an actual restaurant but more expensive than like a taco shack (closer to like food truck pricing). I felt the portions were good enough to justify the cost and will definitely go again. My husband and I both got 2 salsas with each entrée

The female cook with all the tattoos was extremely rude from initial contact with me. She was busy on the phone and was not willing to answer a simple question. Because of her they have lost a loyal consumer and customer.

La.vieja cosinera de todos Los tatuajes es una lastima de persona sin modales deberia ser despedida . Nunca vuelvo aki .

Hate to give it such a bad rating, but the experience wasn't the best. We shop their often and it always has been great. We went in there to get tacos/tortas for lunch and was surprised at how expensive their tortas are now. $14.95 for a warm torta. To top it off, they would only give me 2 of the small salsa containers. We bought 7 tacos + 2 tortas. Most neighboring taco joints toss in 5/7 of those small containers. I asked for more and she was extremely hesitant to give me more. She gave me a 3rd one but wasn't happy about it. I'll continue grocery shopping there but I'll never buy their take out food as it's too expensive and not as good as other places.

I went in to this establishment with my wife and the prices was high and it didn’t feel welcoming like other Spanish businesses that is similar, so we left, but my wife works around the area and wanted to have some lunch from their hot food service and she had been told from a co-worker that don’t like gringos (white) people because how they prices is higher and the selection of food they limit you on what you can get, but my wife just thought her co-worker was just mistaken on her observation, so she went in she went to the hot food service and the lady ignored her until my wife started to talk to order her food ,but lady told her that the meals couldn’t add fish due to it being lent and it was Friday, and continuously the lady would tell her she couldn’t have certain food with her order like: peppers, onions and fish until the owner came or some one with authority told the lady serving that she can and give her what she’s asking for in a stern tone. Then the server lady started giving her all what she asked for. But while her order was being made the Spanish lady customer the server lady was much friendlier and smiles and glad to serve, talking about numerous things. The thing about this is the server lady didn’t know my wife is Spanish, because she look like a gringo (white ) and every conversation the server lady was saying also had some bad comments about gringos. So what my wife co-worker my not be necessarily true about the owners of this establishment, because of the intervention of one of the owners, but is for sure is true about the servers.

There is a glitch in their system adding items at check out.

PLEASE look at your receipts!!

Cashier was aware of glitch and only said something after I gave her a confused look when she told me the total.

The grocery store is a great and authentic Hispanic store. They have a large selection of everything you need with the added value of an equally amazing catering service. I’ve used the catering and the food, service and quality were impressive. I would highly recommend both the store and catering.

We bought chicharon but when we ate it, it was stale. We just happened to pass by and since it had good reviews, we went in to check it but wont be coming back anymore.
