My wife and I recently visited this establishment after hearing lots of good things over the years, and I’m not certain if it was an off night or what, our reservation was on a Friday evening @ 7pm, but our experience was dreadful.
Upon arriving for our reservation it took several mins to be greeted. Once we were seated, our server stopped by 10 mins later to announce how unbelievably “busy” they were… The restaurant was less than a 1/4 full. It took 35 mins to put in a drink order. 15 mins to get those drinks. Another 20 mins to be visited again for apps, 20 mins for apps to arrive. Pizza was subpar, baked clams were oily and had a strange taste to them. It was at this point we decided to kindly request the check to be on our way. We didn’t have the patience to wait another 40-60 mins for entrees, nor were we overly impressed with the apps.
Had the service and/or food been better we would have stayed for the entire meal. As a side note the restaurant itself was not very clean either. Ceilings are falling apart in places, bathrooms were dirty, clutter in areas patrons walk through etc.
We may be willing to give them another chance, but with so many other great restaurants in the area it may be a while before we return, if ever. Hopefully they can get this place turned around. Some additional servers and staff would be an immediate improvement.

This restaurant has been here for about 19 years. I have never seen it before last night. We were looking for a new Italian place and came across Nuova Italia. I am glad we did. The quality of food and portion size are a very good value. Its about what you would pay at Biaggi's. the food is much better and more authentic tasting (imo). It does look like they have a major leak in the celling in the middle of the restaurant. It wasn't anything that made me question the food safety or anything. Its just a little distracting from the beautiful aesthetics of the historic building.

Food is not great, not bad but fairly oily. The atmosphere is nice; very historic building, so that is unique and creates an enjoyable ambiance. The service was a let down. We're seated for approximately 20 minutes before someone asked if we might want to order a cocktail while we waiting for one more person in our group to arrive. Server seemed overwhelmed and was quite apologetic when she eventually did help us out. Seems like a family run small business so I give them a bit of grace with a 4 star, but really more of a 3 star experience.

As a Chef critic i felt this place had a nice atmosphere and friendly service. I had the impression they were slightly understaffed and looks to be family run. The food was decent, however, the plating and some of the dishes were sloppy. A little pricey for the food that was served. I still gave a 4 star as the waitstaff was friendly and excellent.
Such a beautiful ambience with great food. I will definitely be back. Even brought back a tub of the lentil soup. From the warm bread to the dessert, it was a delightful experience.
Genuine Italian restaurant. You know it is authentic when you see other Italians dining there. Excellent food. Nice ambiance. Great place to take your significant other. My first time but I will dine here again when I am in Saint Charles again.

Was referred here by my best friend and was so excited to book here for my 21st birthday. We get there and we’re not greeted at all nor asked if we had reservation we were just standing there. Then a gentleman seated us at first and we thought it was cool because it felt super exclusive. Then after some time we ordered our food and proceeded to wait 45 minutes. I understand we were a rather big party, but nobody came to update us nor offer more drinks or drinks water. We only got water and coke from these pitchers that were left to the side. The bathrooms also stopped working upstairs. What really did it was the fact that my mom was given the wrong order and then the waiter insisted that someone had gotten grilled chicken in our party and absolutely nobody did. We were told we could get the octopus but it would be a longer wait but it wasnt even worth it anymore. I didn’t even want desert after because I was so upset and just wanted to leave already. Extremely disappointed.

We went for my daughters 21st birthday and had made a reservation in advance. We get there and it took about 10 minutes to get us seated. There was no "hello" and nobody asked if we had a reservation. Once tended to, we got taken to the second floor. We were asked what we want to drink and we got our orders. The server said that the entrees came with soup and we never got the soup. Jesse was our server and he later on said to us that they don't bring the soup upstairs because it is too much work for them. We never asked to be seated upstairs. Then one of the upstairs bathrooms stopped working. My wife also ordered octopus and then gave her chicken instead and then they said the octopus would take too long. This was after we has waited 45 minutes for our food and we kept having to go downstairs to ask for things because nobody was coming up. Very disappointed with the service especially for my daughters special 21st.
