Best milk tea in Champaign-Urbana, IMO. The houjicha milk tea with cheese foam is especially fantastic.

The drinks were good but wow the cleanliness is lacking. This bathroom was disgusting. So we’re the floors! I’d hate to imaging what the kitchen looks like.

The best boba on campus. Favorite drink is probably the Oolong Milk Tea

I love boba, and pride myself to having gone to every Boba place at U of I Campus, and by FAR my favorite store has definitely been Tenko Tea! The biggest reasons for this is the organic tea used, the quality of the tea is apparent because of this! Out of all the teas here I have tried (which I have tried everyone here), Genmaicha has to be my unrivaled favorite, although I know it is not everyone's cup of tea (haha get it cup of tea). The other thing I really enjoy about Tenko Tea is their brown sugar boba, which I would say has one of the best consistencies on campus. Some other spots on campus their Boba has a hard or inconsistent texture, but Tenko's is consistently a good mouthfeel and really flavorful. Their mochi is really good too, has the consistency of a marshmallow, but the cheese foam is personally not my favorite. My only gripe with Tenko Tea is the consistency of the drinks. Some days, 25% can feel like the perfect sweetness and other days it can feel like too much, same thing with amount of Boba / Ice. That being said, regardless of who makes it, it always tastes the same (delicious n.n). That being said, I LOVE Tenko Tea, and the staff is super friendly (Emma and Tiffany to name a few), and I really enjoy everything about the store, including the vibe (especially the authentic Asian music played within the store). Never get rid of the Genmaicha and you got my business every time I crave Boba. :)

Vegetarian options: All options are vegetarian, and they have oat milk as a milk substitute (Oatly, which is the best oat milk imo)

Kid-friendliness: So many fun kids games!

Dietary restrictions: Milk substitutes / no milk, drink customization (especially sweetness level and toppings) really help people of different dietary preferences / restrictions

I think this place is almost going to shut down. I went there Thursday and ordered matcha tea, but he gave me a “don’t know what kind of drink” with no matcha. And I asked him to do me another one, and he said “usually we don’t do another one, but this time I will do another one for you”. And then he gave me exact the same one still without matcha. And his words are so rude and disrespectful to me. I felt awkward and walked away.

I really like the Hojicha and Uji Match drinks :) The tapioca boba is actually one of the best toppings on campus. I can tell they make it from scratch!!!

The moment I walked in everyone went silent and energy got really awkward. The customer service was mad weird. I stood there for like 20 seconds because I didn’t realize you had to order on a screen. Instead of helping me everyone including the workers stared at me like I was stupid. the staring at me from both the workers and customers was weird. it’s 2023 in America in a diverse city so I didn’t understand the rude staring do better. but the boba was good lol

I like brewed tea and from the two times I went to Tenko tea I got an oolong tea with boba and regular hojicha. The oolong tea was pretty watery and disappointing but was ok. I expected the hojicha to be brewed but turns out they use a powder with water. This lead to a pretty awful mouthfeel where you could feel the the powder when drinking and it lacked the complex earthy flavors of hojicha.I’d say if you want to drink brewed tea tenko tea is not the place.Edit: I went Oct 30 around 4PM.

I live on campus and always enjoy visiting tenko tea. They have wide ranging hours, a variety of regular and seasonal drinks, and an enjoyable cafe space. The management has changed within the past few years, for the better. Now the establishment is regularly well staffed and has extended hours.

Ordered the black grape slush and it was pretty good with cheese foam. I could taste the grape and I loved their golden boba.
