“After today's experience at Baldarotta's Porketta & Sicilian Sausage we will never be going back. The level of unprofessionalism and discrimination exhibited by one of their owners was astonishing. To give a brief synopsis we were excited to try out their new location for lunch. We were immediately met with rudeness for no apparent reason by the woman at the counter, I later learned she was actually one of the owners. I honestly just brushed it off and didn't think too much into it at first. But that changed the moment we said we would be eating there and get time changed even more as she stepped out from the counter and said "I'm going to stick you guys in here." as she turned on the light to the extra dining room. For context there's maybe 15 tables in their main dining room and two or three of them had customers. Additionally, this was around 11:30 am and there were no customers behind us in line. The extra dining room was dirty and had food on the floor and the tables needed cleaned. The couple that had been in front of us got great customer service and the woman was very pleasant with them. It became very apparent that we were being treated differently due to the dog, who is a trained service dog being with us. We decided to ask for our money back and leave even though we love their food and have been looking forward to it. When we walked back into the main room and poorly asked if we could cancel our order and be refunded the response we received was absolutely in a harsh tone. She gave me my cash back and I said thank you. She responded by ignoring me and agreeing as if I was invisible. We walked around the building to the parking lot and I told Matt that I couldn't leave without having a conversation with her because the entire interaction just did not sit well with me. I walked back in and patiently waited for a couple at the counter to finish ordering. It should be noted the light to the other dining area we were told to go sit in was off again. Again when I approached I received a cold response after witnessing her being very pleasant with the couple in front of me. I asked if I could speak with a manager or someone in charge. That is when she informed me that it was her and she was a part owner. I asked her why she has been so rude towards us and that we felt discriminated against because of our service dog. She told me she didn't see anything stating he was a service dog. I explained ADA law does not require a service animal to be vested and that she never asked if he was or even mentioned dogs were not allowed, had she asked or said something we would have informed her he was. I would also like to note that the majority of our interaction with her Lambeau was sitting or in a down stay not causing any issues. She admitted that she did treat us differently because of the dog and said she could have handled the situation better but never actually took accountability or apologized for the entire situation. I'm sorry for the long read but I truly couldn't stay quiet about this. I hope she learned something from this interaction today and as much as I'm saddened and disappointed in the entire situation I'm honestly glad it happened to us and not someone who is not able to speak up for themselves. I truly hope they decide to do some self reflecting and learn how to be more accommodating for individuals with disabilities in the future.”

“This is a favorite hangout to enjoy good drinks (some specialty non-alcoholic German drinks available), food, and friends. We also love the chance for shopping during the Christkindlmarket and other events like Oktoberfest. Highly recommend anyone check this place out.”

“Bunny’s Tavern never disappoints. We often visit before seeing shows at the Station Theatre, and get drinks after. The food and drinks were great as always, and the atmosphere makes it easy to settle in and stay longer than you planned…which we definitely did tonight, hanging out and playing the slots right up until close. What really stood out, though, was a moment of genuine kindness from the staff. Just before closing, a very elderly gentleman came in wearing his Illini gear, bright-eyed and bushy tailed, clearly thinking it was morning or game time, even though the game had long since ended. He sat down and asked for a cup of coffee, and the bartenders greeted him by name. When they gently told him it was nearly midnight and they didn’t have any coffee brewed. He was completely surprised. “You gotta be kidding me!!” One of the bartenders sat with him, spoke kindly and calmly, and then said she’d walk him home and help reset the clock in his apartment again. After what was clearly a long shift, seeing that level of patience and compassion was honestly beautiful. Great food, great drinks, and truly good people behind the bar. That kind of grace says everything about a place. I’ll be back, and I’ll be recommending it.”

“This is simply the best chinese place I have found in three years of searching. I came from NJ, and for anyone from NJ, Fuzhounese is what we typically get. I cannot reccomend this place enough.

I loved the General’s lunch special and the Fried Wontons. The Almond Chicken was also a great one, as the person lying down on the couch can attest to.

The portions on even the lunch special were generous, with this being one of the few times I stopped halfway through. The bag was almost overstuffed, and the only way to extract the containers was by ripping the paper bag. (RIP)

“We were on the last leg of a cross-country trip from San Francisco to Michigan and hungry made itself known. We made a flying drive-thru tour of UI-UC and ordered pizza and empanadas from Manolo’s on the way into town. While zooming down I-57, we noshed on a cheese and chicken pizza as well as three empanada varieties: inferno chicken, jalapeño chicken, and potato and cheddar. Everything was awesome! I especially appreciated the pizza crust: thin, pliable, chewy, flavorful but not too salty. The one-man show running the operation during our quick stop on 12/29/21 even took time to use a clean cutter on the pizza so the PN/TN allergic diner could enjoy the feast. Is a desire to try the rest of the empanadas a valid reason for the offspring to attend UI-UC? Maybe it validates a return, daytime visit.”

But 3 days ago, I ordered the homestyle chicken salad and the salad was mostly yellow lettuce - the chef had cut the heart of the head into the salad. It was so bitter that I could not eat it. I mentioned it to the server, who should have noticed, but didn’t. Why did the chef serve this? Still, I would recommend because the food is usually good.”

Fusion House Rolls is to die forrrrr! $16 They are always so big, good, crispy, and the choice of meat and sauces are delicious all together! My favorite Rolls!

“Shout out to the Intermezzo Cafe staff at Krannert Center on campus today. Wonderful customer service and delicious food. Today's lunch special was a BLT and side of your choice. After a brief hesitation (I love BLTs!), I opted to order the chicken salad wrap and fruit cup. Delicious! They offer a decent variety of breakfast and lunch options with quick and friendly service. Highly recommend if you have not tried them.”

“I visited 25 O’Clock Brewing Company for a quick drink and had a really solid overall experience.

The vibe is very chill with an open, comfortable layout. There’s a mix of bar seating, tables, and outdoor seating, and even though there was a decent crowd, it still felt cozy and relaxed. The space also has board games available, which adds to the laid-back atmosphere. I also found the bathroom doors—made of bare wood with handwritten messages from guests—interesting and unique, though I’m not entirely sure if that’s intentional or just part of the aesthetic.

We were greeted by a friendly bartender who offered samples, which was appreciated and helped with decision-making. There was also a happy hour from 4–6 PM with $1 off drafts.

In addition to drinks, they also offer food options, though we didn’t order anything during this visit.

I wasn’t in the mood for alcohol, so I tried the Cloud Mountain kombucha instead, which I’d heard is popular locally. I was able to sample a 2 oz pour for $2 before committing, which was a nice option. The kombucha itself was crisp, refreshing, and not overly sweet—honestly one of the better ones I’ve had.

My partner tried three beers and found them decent, though nothing particularly memorable.

Overall, this is a great spot for a relaxed drink with a good atmosphere and friendly service. The kombucha stood out as excellent, and while the beers were more average, the overall experience makes it worth a visit.”

“Upon opening, I order the lobster Mac & Cheese to go. One serving was quite enough for two. This dish was spectacular with a generous portion of Maine lobster it was cooked and seasoned perfectly with truffle oil and spring onions.
