My husband and I made the pilgrimage on the final day of the Cherry Thing-A-Ling haul. We were literally there at the final hour. The lines of loyal customers were well-managed, and the purchase seamless. I had never had these delicacies before, but I can assure you they did not disappoint! From the photos, one might think they are sickeningly sweet, but this was not the case at all. Simply put, I can certainly see what all the fuss is about. After tucking away a couple dozen in the freezer, I am convinced I’ll be an annual customer!

A trip the Schmidt Bakery for the annual Cherry Thing-a-lings has become a tradition for my grandsons and me. For now over 8 years we rise early during President's Day weekend and make the hour-long drive for warm, unique and cherry filled goodness. Just got back from the 2024 run, jazzed and looking forward to 2025. Please keep'm coming Bertie!

ATMOSPHERE: It's a small local bakery that garners attention yearly on the news during lent for its cherry thing-a-ling. Due to the size, they only allowed 10 people in at a time. I first saw the covering of this bakery on the news last year, but I didn't get a chance to make the journey. This year, after seeing it on the news again, I did. The line was semi-long and moved a long but did stall a little after a while. I arrived just after 6:30 am and entered the store after 7am. . It was cold out, too. FOOD: Is it worth the hype? I think so. I only purchased one box (a dozen for $20) because I didn't know what to expect. I didn't taste it until I returned home after my 50-minute commute. I enjoyed it. It's not too sweet. The portion serving is the right size for me, too. The texture is soft, and every once in a while, you bite into a cherry. If the commute wasn't 50 minutes, I would probably return for another box at my son's request. In the meantime, God willing, I will return next year and will purchase more than one box. SERVICE: The cashier was polite, kept a smile on her face, and was efficient. The person who gave me my order could have provided a plastic bag to place my box in. They had a ton that she had just separated. I almost lost my handle on the box. Thankfully, I didn't, but if I had and the box was in the plastic bag, It would have at least worked out favorably.

Thought I would have written a review here one ofthe past several years we've been here. Now that I have a few hot thing-a-lings in my tummy I'll write a review.Heard about the cherry thing-a-lings 5-6 years ago. Cherry is by far my favorite fruit for deserts and was able to convince my fam to go on a pilgrimage with me here. We've been back every year since. We've tried other stuff, all good, and gotten some honey, shirts, and other stuff here, but the cherry thing-a-lings are the best. Like a cherry+ fritter+, and more. Definitely will continue the yearly tripfor the foreseeable future. Thank you Clem, Bertie, and the entire Schmidt family for starting & continuing this wonderful tradition. And thank you Clem for hanging out with the crowd and selfies!

Great local bakery specializing in cherry fritters around President's day every year. All their baked goods are AWESOME! You've got to try the cherry thing-a-lings (fritters).

Cannot speak enough about their deep fried Croissants !! The staff is very helpful!

As someone who frequently travels and has been to many donut shops, this is my clear favorite.

Schmidt's Bakery and President's Day weekend means Cherry Thing A Lings! Had heard so much about these fritters through the years. But now that we are living only an hour away, my husband and I decided we had to make the trek to see what all the hoopla was about. And now we know! These fritters are definitely one of a kind. Well worth waiting in line for and you will wait in line. But the staff worked hard to move everyone through as quickly as possible and no one seemed to mind the wait. Will definitely be going back next year for more.
