I'm sorry for the 1* but I just want it to be known that this is not Cajun, maybe, MAYBE CREOLE. I'm from cajun country and the dishes I had, bourbon chicken and jambalaya both need more seasonings. The jambalaya needs better sausage(this is where some heat comes from), bigger/more pcs of chicken, and their is 1 spice in their that is way too much.
Bourbon chicken needs some flavor to the roux, salt and heat, to make the "bourbon sweet" not so over bearing.
The rice was overcooked in both dishes, whether it's microwavable rice or rice pot, it needs to be cooked less. It needs salt or as some do, cook the rice with some chicken stock to add that flavor to your rice.
I never expect perfect or even great cajun food outside of a certain range, but I hope you take into consideration the critiques I've posted and possibly adjust some of the elements in your food.
Best wishes,
A Cajun.

Whoever was working today, may 30th, on the register around 2-3pm deserves a huge raise. Made our whole experience so wonderful and recommended the best food i’ve had in bloomington in a while, and for so cheap. Two meals, two drinks, and a desert for under 30 dollars, unbeat. This place is so underrated.

I ordered the chili cheese étouffée expecting it to be similar to Yats’ in Indy, but was very disappointed. The rice tasted like instant rice out of a package and the sauce had almost no flavor. I wish I would’ve listened to the reviews and tried somewhere else while in town. It was okay, but overall a skip.
DAT'S RULES!! you want some well seasoned cajun comfort food while you're in the campus/kirkwood area? wanna sit down for a quick lunch in a bodega with a hot sangwich? outdoor seating on beautiful 4th street with a big ol bowl of creamy crawfish on rice or some silky gumbo? wanna clear out them sinuses with some real HEAT? AND some of the best 'garlic bread' around town? and all for under $10?!Food: amazing! a Btown standard for me since I arrived in 2010.Service: the OWNER behind the register, or in the kitchen. no nonsense, helpful, courteous. Great at recommending food items or hot sauces to go with the meal.Atmosphere: bodega tables/awesome outdoor seating on 4th st.*Should mention they have a great selection of ginger beer (bottled) that goes great with the spicy cajun flavors, and a good selection of hot sauces (free) to choose from to elevate your experience! My top order:Thai Peanut Etoufee???Drunken Chicken?Honorable mention:Voodoo Chicken??Chili Cheese Crawfish Etoufee???Red Beans and Rice(pictures is a HALF order of the Thai Peanut Etoufee, with included side of 'garlic bread' and garnished with the Cajun Hot Sauce)

Always enjoyed going here for the food but the last couple times I’ve went the older guy behind the counter was belittling the cashier and was rude to the two of us when were trying to decide on what to get, food wasn’t as good as it usually was the Bourbon Chicken anyway. Was disappointed.

Food tasted exactly how I felt when I entered the restaurant, RUSHED! Guy behind the counter customer service skills is trash. Nothing like the Yats in Columbus IN. Do not waste your time or money.
Ate at Dats today. Without a doubt, absolutely not even a second guess, easily the nastiest food I’ve ever eaten from a restaurant. This is not Cajun/Creole food. I don’t know what this canned chicken, boil in a bag rice concoction was trying to be, it said bourbon chicken, but I’ve NEVER seen bourbon chicken like that. And that Etouffee, I don’t even know what to say, it was an abomination, I have never seen Etouffee like that in my life. I don’t know how they managed to get bourbon chicken and CHEESE and artichoke Etouffee to taste similarly nasty, but they did. All these positive reviews, I don’t know what they’re talking about or what they ate but they are not telling the truth. You would be better off going home and cooking up a box of Zataran’s and some andouille sausage than this hot mess.
