March 2026: Great local place. We only tried the breakfast options but they serve lunch and dinner as well. Good selection of specialty coffees. Huge portions! Everything was very good and served quickly. Very busy place but turned tables over very quickly.

Cute place. It may be slightly run down but not yet to the point where it's concerning. I liked the colourful atmosphere with the painted walls and stained glass decoration in the windows, and thought my seat was very cozy. The food is diner-style but very good so far. I came for a breakfast and a lunch:
Lunch: I had a Black Russian sandwich and a pot of Emperor's Pride tea. The sandwich, which is a vegetarian version of a Reuben with roasted veggies instead of meat, was delicious. They really piled on the veggies. Some fell out of the sandwich, but I just ate them with the home fries. The home fries also were nicely seasoned. The tea was a little off. It's possible it was the tea itself that didn't taste how I expected, but it kind of tasted like I was getting the flavour of a different tea in the pot.
Breakfast: Apple pancake and bouquet latte (seasonal special - lavender Ceylon tea latte with honey and rose syrup). The bouquet latte was wonderful and had this beautiful red swirl latte art. The pancake was nice and fluffy. One pancake is something like $5, but one is enough for a complete meal, maybe with a protein side if you're especially hungry.
The staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. The food didn't take very long even though they seemed busy.

Literally the worst breakfast ive ever had, no exaggeration. I used to think it was dramatic when people said their food came out cold. Like maybe they meant it was warm/not hot. Nope. Everything here was cold. Pancakes, eggs, toast, everything.

Then theres the decor, its a somewhat quirky atmosphere and we ate in the downstairs section but all i could see was dust all over the place.

Wow, what a place!!!. Very well done. I had the spiced coffee, mint mocha, french toast, and smoked salmon hash. Everything was phenomenal. Very well done guys. This is hands down the best place I've eaten at in bloomington. If you're close and got time for a quick sip, bite, or read. They even have beer and wine. Fantastic place man.

Don’t come here hungry, food is not good. Tea and drinks are delicious! I’d recommend just getting a cup of tea or visiting the cafe for a coffee.

Whimsical is definitely the right word for this quaint restaurant. I love everything about this restaurant. We ended up here on a rainy morning and were able to be seated on the front porch so we didn't see too much of the decor except when we peeked inside. I loved how homey everything felt. The food was great, atmosphere excellent, and customer service was great. Our waiter suggested a coffee that is not my usual since they didn't have what I usually drink and it was quite tasty.

Parking is paid street parking or garages like other places in the area.

Kid-friendly environment and accommodations.

Due to its size, it can be hard to get a table, but definitely worth the wait.

Cute, kitschy place with delicious food and good service. As with most places that carry this cool, rustic, hipster atmosphere, it could stand to be a little cleaner, but nothing to keep me from coming back. By far, the standout was the blueberry pancakes--My goodness the flavor and texture and smell were amazing! Some places don't put enough blueberries in the mix, the Runcible Spoon did it right! The biscuits and gravy were on point, as well as the scrambled eggs. My family enjoyed everything. We are from out of state, and honestly, if we ever return to Bloomington, we will probably eat somewhere different because I'll bet there are plenty of good restaurants from which to choose, but who knows! Perhaps we'll find ourselves back here. Would really like to check out their dining room downstairs...

The best spinach, mushroom cheese quesadilla I've ever had! The penne pasta with spinach, chicken and Alfredo was excellent. The toasted bread had some seasoning I didn't care for but was still excellent. They have many, choices of teas and wonderful coffee drinks. This restaurant would have gotten 5 stars if the biscuits and gravy would have been better than a three. I highly recommend this eatery. Definitely get the chocolate decadence dessert. This may not be the exact name but close enough to figure which one it is. Be prepared for an emotional experience with the level of smooth, creamy, chocolate dessert.

We went to Runcilbe Spoon for breakfast on Saturday 11/29/25. It looked busy but we were seated immediately. The service was excellent. The food was amazing. I had the Salmon omelet - amazing. Our server did a great job of making sure our coffee cups were full and attending to all our needs. Definitely will return the next time we are in Bloomington.

I worked at Runcible Spoon in college. I love Reagan and Matt wholeheartedly, I don’t know if they remember me. But they saved my life. Such good people welcomed with hugs and grins. The best kind of people.
